Bought a car that broke down as soon as i took it off the lot?

I have bought a ford explorer from a dealership 2 days ago. I put 1000 down on it and it was worth 4000. 1 hour after i drove it off the lot it broke down! I called the dealership and notified my salesman and he said he would get a tow truck to tow it. They towed it and are have been trying to fix it since yesterday. I don't want the car back. What can i do to void this contract? Also on the title, the milage says 150134 and on the car's odometer it says 146322. Isn't there a law that would help me void contract in this case?

Is a Ford Explorer a good first car? - 1

I'm a 16 year old guy and I'm shopping around for my first car. I'm used to driving trucks and SUVs because that's what most people in my family have. My dad used to have a 1999 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD. I really liked that vehicle. I have been looking on eBay, craigslist, and autotrader for one just like my dad's old Explorer. I have done my research and it seems to be that everyone who has one, loves it. I was looking the other day and I came across this one. I really like it. I can find any flaws (other than the radio, I'm not a big fan of aftermarket). Here's the link.

Added (1). Please don't tell me they're junk. The one my dad had was great. We only had to put brakes on it and do matainence that every car requires. My aunt has had a 2000 Explorer Sport since 2003 and it's still going strong.

What vehicles would be practical and affordable?

So, I will be getting my first vehicle in about a month and a half. I'm most definitely going to buy from the private seller and owner of the used vehicle. I'm assuming I won't qualify for a very big loan, since I haven't held a credit score very long, so I don't want the vehicle to be too expensive, but I also want it to have good gas mileage and also be practical.
I've been looking at used Ford Explorer Sport Tracs, I found one for a really good price and I read some reviews on Edmunds, but I can't decide. It has pretty fair gas mileage for an SUV/Truck cross, but then I know I can find something better.
I looked to the Jeep Liberty and found some great deals, also read some Edmunds reviews and they have pretty darn good gas mileage for a Jeep, but again, I could find better.
My problem is I worry about the appearance of the vehicle. That is something that no matter how hard I try I just can't get myself to bend very far on.
I don't NEED an SUV or a truck. An SUV would be nice, but a Sedan would be fine, also. My dog isn't very large, I don't need a ton of room, but I do like enough room with keeping the future in mind. If something so happened where I needed the room, I'd like to have it.
So, anything I can probably find used for under 6,000 and that has good gas mileage and track records would be awesome. I'm really just looking for ideas based on what you've experienced or heard. I'm no car guru, unfortunately. Haha
