Ford taurus Two D FOR DRIVE?

Why are there two D in the ford taurus drive

The second D gear on your Ford makes use of an overdrive gear, which is appropriate for use at highway speeds.

One is just a 'D' for drive, while one is a 'D' inside a circle for overdrive. Just leave it in the overdrive position.

This was asked may 2013 also. Here is the best answer from that
You can pretty much use the "Drive" closest to "neutral" all the time. If you find that the transmission shifting between the two top gears while you are driving around town is annoying, you can use the next "Drive" gear down. (Don't forget to shift back to the other "Drive" when you get onto the highway.

The D which is outlined is the overdrive D without outline is 3rd gear, use the overdrive D, unless you plan on driving at 45 mph for long periods of time.

Probably because you have the manual shift feature. There's usually a + and a - sign by one of them. Read your owners manual to learn how to use it.

Early ford automatics had two drive positions as they had straight drive as there was a position with a circle and a "D" inside for overdrive. If the lever was left in the first drive position as on the highway when you get up to at least 40MPH the transmission would shift into overdrive. Putting the shift lever in the second drive position locks out overdrive.

  • Someone stolden my 1999 Ford Taurus two weeks ago? It was not towed because I seen the guy drive away with it and the wires were not exposed how they do it
  • Should I learn to drive with a Ford Taurus or Honda Odyssey or it doesn't matter? I've asked this question before, but I made a mistake when it came to the cars. I took 4 hours of driving instruction driving a Ford Taurus, but I was just curious if I should buy more hours or just train with my dad with has a Honda Odyssey. I'm in my 30s, so I'm looking for mature answers. Would it be hard to learn on a larger sized vehicle? I drove it once, and it seemed all right. Any advice is appreciated. TIA
  • My 2000 Ford Taurus won't shift into fourth gear is it ok on a 700 mile round trip drive? I have a 2000 ford Taurus and it doesn't shift into fourth gear anymore. Its been that way for 2 years. It runs fine just doesn't shift into fourth gear and the transmission light does come on after a while of driving it. I was wondering if it would be ok to take it on a 700 mile round trip drive? I know its not good for it I just need to know if I'm going to be stranded on the highway somewhere because my trans went out.
