Ford F-150: the Apogee of the F-Series

The Ford F-150, a full-size pickup truck, is the most popular automobile of the Ford F series.

The current 12th generation F-150 is based on an updated 2008 Ford truck platform. These vehicles have such distinguishing features as:

  • Super Duty-style grilles & head lamps;
  • 2 doors in standard cab models (instead of 4).

Major focus was made on fuel economy. As a result, the truck series gained two new V8 engines (5.0 L, 360 hp and 6.2 L, 411 hp) and two V6 engines. One of the latter engines has 3.7 L size, and the other with 3.5 L is known as EcoBoost. All engines come with the automatic transmission, which is the only option available. A Nexteer Automative EPS (Electric Power Steering) system is mounted on other modifications as an addition.

When developing the next-generation Ford F-150 to be unveiled in 2015, Ford’s engineers pursue great fuel economy purposes. The truck is expected to lose weight by more than 700 pounds due to the use of aluminum as a main material for the body structure. In addition to that, high strength steel will be used in the frame. Some of the future models will inherit engines from the previous generation. Basic 3.7 L V6 engine will be replaced by a more fuel-efficient 3.5 L V6. According to unofficial sources, the new engine will be likely to put out about 320 hp.
