What's the biggest size tire I can fit on my truck?

I have a 2005 5.4l Ford F-150 XLT with stock suspension. The driver's manual calls for a 255 70 17. What's the biggest size I could fit with no issues? Would a 285 70 17 fit?

These size would work. But you might have to crank your torsion bars in front.

With stock rims?

If so 265/70-17 would be the absolute largest tire size you could use and still stay within Ford specs.

You're going up about 1.6 inches in overall diameter. This is a fairly significant increase. Your effective axle ratio will be affected somewhat. If you have 3.55 axle ratio, with the new tires it will be reduced effectively to about 3.37. It'll be a noticeable change.

  • What tire size can I put on my Ford Ranger? I've got a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 2wd 3.0 v6 and as far as I know it's all stock. Currently it has 225/70r16 fuzion tires on the rear and some 225/60/r16 tires on the front. I want to put new all terrain tires on it and wanted to go bigger so I was thinking like 235/75r16 or something like that so would they fit or what is a bigger tire I can put on without making any other mods to the truck? Also I would be getting all terrains too. Any help is appreciated
