Ford Ranger: a Compact Pickup Truck

The Ford Ranger, a compact pickup truck, was manufactured up to 2012 when the car was discontinued. There were three distinct Ford Ranger lineups intended for different regions of the world.

The third-generation North American Ford Range variant was manufactured from 1998 up to 2012 in a few body styles:

  • two-door compact;
  • two-door extended;
  • four-door extended;
  • four-door crew cab.

The automobile was powered by either an I4 engine or a V6 engine. The former was available in a few modifications:

  • 2.3 L Duratec;
  • 2.5 L OHC.

A V6 engine has the following versions:

  • 3.0 L Vulcan;
  • 4.0 L OHV Cologne;
  • 4.0 L SOHC.

Transmission types available were as follows:

  • five-speed Mazda M5OD-R1 manual;
  • four-speed 4R44E automatic;
  • five-speed 5R55E automatic.

Assembly lines were situated in St. Paul, Minnesota; Edison, New Jersey; General Pacheco. The 3d-generation Ford Ranger was replaced by Ranger 6.
