Ford F150 is having some kind of start-up problem?

Vehicle: 2007 Ford F150 5.4L

I start the truck up in the morning time and it comes on fine but after I drive it, shut it off, and then try to start it back up it takes about three tries for it to work. Also the check engine light stays on. What could be the problem?

Was that enough time to do damage to engine? If So what damage?

1994 Ford F150 4.9L (Straight Six for those who are American).

Misread dipstick. Stopped at store, got quart off oil, changed my mind and got gallon instead. Looked at dipstick again, still judged oil as low. So I added 1 quart in there. Then I added 3. They I dumped the whole bottle. Did this because dipstick looked dry even after adding said amount.

Drove home 22KM (15miles roughly). Got home, drained oil, changed it. Added 5 3/4 of oil and 25 ounces of Slick 50.

Start it up. Truck has very small soft tick. Can't even hear it form engine bay. Mostly hear it from drivers seat with door open.

Did I do damage? How long will it take to manifest or worsen?
Read somewhere that night that if oil overfill, it touches bottom of crankcase, gets whipped into a mixture of air and oil. Not good for lubrication. Causes way more friction.

Its been 3 days.
