How much horsepower do these engines have?

97 ford explorer engine 5.0. And is it a vortec? How much horsepower do these engines have - 1

Vortec's are GM products. I would say probably 200.

Cars.com says 211hp @ 4600RPM / 274lb-ft torque @ 3200RPM.

I think it's generally a 5L mustang engine, but with a restrictive intake and exhaust.

I had that engine in a '97 Exploder and I was quite fond of it. Nice, torquey power band and plenty of getup for that little SUV.

And no, it isn't a Vortec. The Vortec was a GM exclusive engine designation as far as I'm aware.

This is a Windsor engine not Vortex
Vortex is a Chevrolet engine that came out in the 1985 model year 4.3 L V6

FORD EXPLORE Second generation (1995-2001)

In early 1997, the 5.0 L V-8 received new cylinder heads (GT-40P series), which upped power to 215 hp (160 kW).

Officially it has 215 HP. But many suspect that it was underrated, The Explorer 302's are pretty desirable due to their GT-40P heads.

It would not be Vortec engine as Vortec is a branding term that GM uses with some of it's engines.
