It should get great millage but for some reason it feels like I'm not getting the power it should when it's in drive it idles rough and the rpm meter keeps jumping but when it's in neutral and park it's fine it also does it in reverse I jus got it an oil change and all new plugs and wires and new cool pak what else could it be?
It seems like maybe a few times per week or so, it starts straining as if it can't switch into the next gear. Eventually it switches over and goes days or a week or so without doing it again. Then it comes back, goes away, etc.
The whole transmission was rebuilt just about 2-3 years ago.
The car is a 1999 Ford Escort if that matters at all.

ATTN: Mechanics or car savvy people. My 1998 ford escort is stalling and I'm not sure why?
Added (1). When I stay in park for a couple minutes and then return the gear to drive, my car stalls. When I backed into my driveway with the reverse gear it also stalled. Sometimes even when I'm just in drive slowing for a stop it acts as if it wants to stall. Whenever it does stall, the battery light and check engine light both come on, but disappear after I start the vehicle up again. Any ideas of what may be going wrong?
95 Ford Escort LX; I want to fix the tailpipe (which fell off) because it's extremely loud without it. The transmission is going though, so I want to put as little money into it as possible. The car was free.
Can I buy a tailpipe that clamps on? Is a muffler/tailpipe combo expensive? I know there's a matching Escort at a U-Pull Lot, but I don't think you're allowed to use cutting tools (and the internet has said that likely the muffler connecting piece will be rusted together).
Suggestions? 
So a friend of mine who is a mechanic came across this car he had serviced since 2000, only 70,000 miles and very reasonably priced. I bit immediately after the test drive love the thing. But does it have ABS? Another question how much does the paperwork/ license cost? I'm going to the registry to get plates, register the vehicle, and an inspection sticker what's that going to cost?
I have a 2001 Ford Escort Sedan… My aunt and I have literally tried everything except a new engine and a new transmission… Everything else is new and was all flushed and blown out and it's still shaking while idling AND driving! We're clueless! We don't know what else to do! Could it be the car slowly breaking down for good?
Does anyone know about how much it would cost to take the car to the dealership to get the alleged hole fixed?
At first we wondered why it was starting to sound like it wasn't changing gears properly. Yesterday, I saw that under the front center of the car, it had a very fast drip of antifreeze. As far as I know, the water pump has been replaced twice over the past 2-3 years. Unless it is running on top of a guard and going over to the middle, what else could it be? Yesterday afternoon it had a heavy drip. As of last night, it magically stopped and the overflow tank that we thought would be empty was still as full as when I filled it up yesterday afternoon. What gives?
Added (1). Transmission was rebuilt just about a year ago with no issues. Starting to wonder if that isn't related to what is going on now. Transmission fluid was serviced at that time and is full and clean.
