I have a Ford Escort 2001. I checked the battery at Auto Zone, told me it was fine and had charge. The alternator is also good. The starter is also fine. When I turn the key there's no clicks. The lights on the dashboard stay on. Does anyone know what it could be? I've also checked the cables and connections.
I need the torque wrench settings for a 1996 ford escort 1.6i 16 valve zetec specially the celinder head bolts.
It has an overdrive option, and would just like to know if it has the capability to haul anything. I'm NOT trying to haul anything big, just a something small a few miles down the road and do not have access to a truck and it is just a little bit too big to fit inside the car. I don't know anything about cars and I do know it has an overdrive option and have never used it, and would just like to know if that is a reason to use it.
Could I fit a Zetec DOHC I4 engine from a Ford ZX2 into my 97 Ford Escort?
Added (1). I'm trying to find a good (fast) engine to replace the 2.0 L CVH SPI2000 in my 97 Escort Wagon. I'd like to be the guy who has the POS car that hauls balls (I love the irony).
I have a 99 ford escort that is starting hard. I have to let the fuel pump kick on at least twice before it will start. Once it's started it runs pretty good.
The first thing I did was change the fuel filter, didn't help.
The next thing was take it to the garage and they said it needed a fuel pump because it was losing pressure… They wanted $500 so I changed the fuel pump myself, seem to help for 1 day then back to starting hard again.
The check engine light has not come on.
The fuel pump assembly had to little screen filters that looked dirty, but I couldn't remove them without breaking them so I didn't change them.
Anyone have any idea what else could be wrong?
My escort sounds like its got a jet engine to take off. When i take my foot of the clutch the noise will gradually quieten down.
I thought it was the clutch but with the clutch down if i rev the engine the noise will get louder. Its never on a certain gear or its never at a certain rev or speed.
It will never make the noise stationary and i have refilled the gear box oil about 2months ago i also got the clutch replaced a year ago.
Anyone have any idea what this could be i'm at a loss.

I have a 1987 ford escort. We have already replaced the ignition switch with a new one, but still have to turn the key, then slightly let off and hold it to make it run. Once I let go it dies.
First of all, I know nothing about cars but I had some friends take a look. After about a ten minute drive this morning my car started smoking and had a really bad smell like burning from the engine. After my friends looked at the car they noticed the fan wasn't spinning on its own. We let the car idle for 10-15 minutes and still the fan wouldn't turn on. Temp gauge is busted so i don't know when it over heats. Should a 95 escort fan spin freely or is it seized? The hose that water flows through was flat so they added water. What other problems could it be?
