Diesel engines and mileage?

I'm due to pass my driving test in the next 3-4 weeks and because of the car I've been learning in I'd really like a diesel as opposed to a petrol engine, I've seen a few cars 55 plate Ford Mondeo, 55 plate Renault Laguna and a 04 Mazda 6… They have mileages ranging from 100,000 miles to 124,000 miles and all have a 2.0 turbo diesel engine… Do these mileages seem normal for a car this age? And what are the signs to look out for?

Can I change the head of my engine for more power?

OK I have a 1994 NC Ford fairlane Ghia II, I noticed its got 2 valves per cylinder and was wondering is there another engine that I can grab the head off woth more valves so I have more power
Ex. The sr20 (Silvia engine) has 16v and you can grab a P11 head off a pulsar which is 20v. Same with rb engines, so if you have anything I would love to know thank you

What is a exhaust gas recirculaton on the motor of a pickup?

My dad has a pickup year is in the 90's. I can't remember if it is a ford or chevy. But the 'service motor soon' light has been on for a few months. Well, I took it to AutoZone to have it checked. The code was: PO401. It said… Too little flow on the EGR or blocked passage or failed EGR valve.

What is that and where on the motor is it located? He has been driving it for 2 months with the light on. He moved into assisted living center 3 months and it has been parked. I have it now and would like to drive it to see my daughter's. Will it be safe to drive 128 highway miles wihout breaking down?

Construction company totaled my car, will they rent me one?

Briefly, construction zone, a worker was moving equipment (a lift) in the one open lane (no lights on it). He didn't tell foreman to have the cop posted there to block the lane. The lift was about 5 feet up and it hit it at maybe 25 mph. The worker was not harnessed in so was thrown about 20 feet but injuries seem to be mild to none (he was taken away by ambulance).

My car is not worth much (1995 Ford minivan) and suffered severe damage to right windshield post and roof and windshield. I figure the insurance company of the construction company will look it up in the blue book and say "totaled, here's your check for $1,000.

Meanwhile, I'm suffering a damage in that I have to drive to work and already will be losing today (the accident happened 0245 AM).

I don't know how long it will take for the insurance company to decide what to do, I had car towed to a local body shop which will get $ from insurance to pay the tow truck. Meanwhile, do you think they will rent me a car?

I was not injured but this fiasco is ruining my whole day and probably the next week or so, since I can't afford to actually go buy another car (don't know, haven't thought that far ahead yet)…

Classic Car for First Time Driver?

I'm a 14 year old guy who is into antique cars. I know my way around engines and I know how to fix them (I have expirience). I have been looking for a project car on Craigslist and I found a 1964 Ford Thunderbird with a 390 in it. Needs restoration. When I'm of age to drive it, it will be my daily driver. My concerns are the gas mpg will SUCK and it's not all that safe with things like drum brakes… Any input will be highly appreciated!

What's wrong with my 2000 ford contour? Alternator?

I have a 2000 ford contour sport SE V6 and I've kinda always had problems with it. I've had problems with the battery draining the past year but I just unplug the battery now everytime I'm not using it. Anyway, I think my alternator has always been bad but I'm just wondering if this is what's actually wrong with it now. Tonight I left my battery plugged in just cuz it was only 30 mins til id be driving it again (which it never dies that fast) but it was dead when I went back to it. Which is weird. An it was barelyyy dead, so it jumped easily and fast. Anyway, when it was started the dash lights were VERY dim and I think my headlights were also dim but i couldn't tell and forgot to look when I got out. But it drove fine for about 2 blocks then the last 5 blocks it started acting like it didn't want to go when I pushed the accelerator. It almost felt like I was running out of gas cuz it wouldn't want to go but then it would go for a few seconds then the accelerator would kind of stop working again. Very weird. I know it wasn't gas cuz I had a half tank. But does anyone know what this could be? Is it my alternator going out? Any other suggestions? If it is my alternator, do you know around how much that costs to fix? (Without labor fees) just the price of getting a new one. 11 pts to best answer and thank you so much! I need a good answer as I'm 35 weeks pregnant an I don't want to be driving this with my daughter if something is majorly wrong.

Why did my Ford E350 box truck start leaking transmission fluid?

So I left my truck and didn't drive it for about a week or two and 2 days ago I noticed a huge leak that came from the transmission. I'm really curious as to why it happened since I didn't drive it for these two weeks and it happened just recently. What is going on? Bad seals? Hot weather made it start seeping through? I checked the fluid levels and they look fine to me. Advice?
