Parasitic drain on car battery?

Please help. I own a 1997 ford escort europe MK something, and I have this strange problem:

Whenever I leave battery connected overnight, it ends up empty. The thing is, if I disconnect it and connect it before use, it works and never discharges. The alternator gives it proper juice, everything is perfect.

Now, the fun part. WHen I measure parasitic drain, it doesn't exceed 20mA.

Is it possible some relay switches on at night and takes huge load from the battery? Or where would you look for a problem. The battery itself seems very fit.

Do I need to replace my head gasket?

I drive a Ford Escort Zx2 coupe. It's my first car and I would hate to get ride of it. My problem starts at the beginning of this year. It was a gift from my uncle with no issues too it. The miles on it is about 120k. I did leave it sitting for about 8 month while getting around on the bus.

I left the oil cap off one day and oil got everywhere. The engine began heating up. The car started running again after I put oil back in the car and properly tighten the cap on this time. However it was heating up once in a while. I decide to clean the engine but I didn't know I had to cover the spark plugs. Water leaked in and the car began misfiring. My mechanic dried it out the best he could and replace the spark plugs. I took a 400 mile, both way, trip with the car. On the 400 miles back the car began losing power going up hills. When I came across a mountain I had to go up speeding just to make it. So, I stopped in a little town and the mechanic there told me my car was old and running on its last legs, he pointed out to me that it was burning oil. Black smock was coming out of the muffler. He put in so time of oil and said this should help me make it back home. I went back to my mechanic and he said it was the head gasket. He said the cars computer was saying my engine was to lean. He said he did not see any lose of pressure on any of the pipes.
I read that if I was losing coolant or oil then It was probable leaking into my engine but I never really notice any major lose. Help?

Added (1). Also, it's eating up gas more then before. Not a lot but not a little either.
I want to know what might be wrong and what must be done to save my car. I will do anything to keep it.

Old VW Beetle as an everyday car?

So lets say you were looking for a first car and you came across a 78 VW beetle. In was in good condition and was about £1000. It's near to where you live, there's no rust on
Update: Ok, if not a beetle, what about a Morris Minor 1000 or Ford Escort MK1 or

Gas gauge not working and car acting up?

My car ran out of gas because my gauge said I had a quarter of a tank when obviously I didn't (grrr!)
Anyways I put about 3 gallons of gas in my tank and when I start my car, it's idling extremely low and when I go under 15 or 10 mph it dies. Once I get going steady (25-45mph) it's fine.
Is this normal for a car that has been run out of gas? What could be wrong? Maybe I picked up the trash thats in the bottom of the tank? Help? Anyone? Suggestions?

Velocity stack incorporated into headlight?

So I'm rebuilding a 1997 Ford Escort (SOHC) for a daily driver. I'm doing a build series of before and after the rebuild. I will do compression numbers, a few 40-70 pulls, and the range I get on a tank. I'm NOT trying to make this car into a "tuner/sports" car. I'm simply rebuilding it for my daily driver since the parts are cheap and it gets 34mpg and only weights 2400lbs!
Anyways I have it all figured out but there's one segment in my build I'm wondering if I should do for poops and giggles. I was thinking about drilling around a 1 inch in diameter, or however big the high beam is to make room for a velocity stack that will feed directly into the factory air box. I'm going to replace the filter obviously but if I can pull this job off cleanly, it should add a little fuel economy and lower intake temps. I plan on it being a brushed silver or paint it the same green as my escort.
Thoughts on this? Do you think it would be a waste of time? If all goes wrong replacement head lights for this car is like 35 dollars. It is mainly for the build series and to be a bit unique, I don't want it to look trashy though, but if done right it might just blend in a bit. Plus this car is already pretty peppy because of how light it is. I'm getting new refurbished fuel injectors, new fuel pump, and fuel filter (just to name the fuel system). Maybe a small increase in cooler airflow will help it on long heatstroke drives.Velocity stack incorporated into headlight - 1

Having alternator problems?

My battery was going dead, and I had it checked and was told it was the alternator. I bought a new one, received a jump so i could take it to be repaired, and the engine began revving up and down real fast and then died out. It had never fone this before. It is a 2002 Ford Escort.
