Looking for a good family car?

Looking at ones like a Vauxhall Mokka or the Ford Kuga. Lets try this again basically i have a FORD S MAX 57 PLATE diesel, a friend of mine changed my fuel filter on my car and has a primer pump on the fuel line but now my car struggles to start and when it does start it only stays running for about 20mins, i ran a text on it using a odb and it showing no faults, please help as i have no idea what is going on with the bloody thing.
