Power steering issues? Electrical Issue? What is the root cause of this? 2003 Ford Tarus?
I bought a used car about 8 months ago and have been having issues with it. I'm going to start at the very beginning and give as much detail as possible. First bought the car, owner said he put a new battery in because it'd been sitting and wouldn't start and that it needed a new water pump. My uncle (self employed mechanic for 30 years) replaced it for me.
Was running fine until summer hit and I started using the air. If I used max A/C and drove for more than 20 minutes then parked my car and let it sit for 20 or more mins it would not turn over, it'd just sputter or start up, sputter then die, even while giving it gas. I'd have to sit and wait for it to finally turn over and once i started driving it was fine. Took it to my uncle and he said it was the starter so he replaced it. **Note: i had no other issues before this moment.**
When I got the car back nothing initially seemed wrong. I drove it for awhile, under a month, and my gas gauge started having issues. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it would read more or less than what was really in the tank. And it doesn't matter if the tank is full or empty. The check engine light came on a day or two later and i had it checked but i don't remember what code it was throwing.
Part 1, continued in comments
Part 2…
All of the sudden the issues stopped, the gas gauge worked… Didn't have any issues for almost 2 weeks. Then my car died while i was driving, i had no power steering, didn't know what happened so i had to forcibly turn my car off the main road before it stopped moving all together. (possibly where power steering issue stemmed from?) Long story short, I ran out of gas.
After this i noticed the car would make an odd sound when i turned, either direction. I didn't pay much attention to it because i figured it was from when i pulled my car over and noting was messed up (rookie mistake). The gas gauge started acting up again and so we thought to replace the whole fuel pump assembly. When i got my car back, the gas gauge worked but the check engine light was still on. I drove it for 2 days and the gauge stopped working/ worked off and on. I dealt with it but told my uncle and he said he'd look at it soon.
Well 2 days ago i was driving my car and it started to get kind of hard to turn, when i was braking and going around corners, when i was driving slow, when i was pulling in and out of parking spots, and now its stuck in front of my house because it's too hard to turn… Any ideas what is wrong? Please don't say "buy a new car" or make fun of it because its a Ford, or other things of that nature. I just need some honest opinions on what i need to do or what's wrong.
- How to fix 2003 Ford Taurus power steering issues? I replaced the power steering pump on my 2003 Ford Taurus. It still does not work properly. The pump made a loud whining noise after I first started it up. I topped off the fluid, but the steering is still tough. The whining noise has quit, the reservoir is full and the steering is still stiff. What do I do next? It also spit fluid around my engine bay.
- 1995 Ford Taurus with a steering issue. When I turn the steering wheel to a certain spot left or right it will start moving back and forth? According to previous owner the rack and pinion was previously replaced. Steering wheel Is off a little to the right. Any ideas?
- Car won't crank with a new battery and alternator it has no electrical power what could the problem be? I have a 1998 Ford Ranger XLT that has been running for months when I tried starting it earlier today it would click once then nothing. Now it has no electrical power at all.
- 2003 Ford Mustang V6 power steering noisy? I replaced my power steering pump in my 03 mustang 3.8. The new pump is still as noisy as the old one. I made sure there was no air in the system and the fluid was full. I used mercon v which it calls for. What else could be the issue?
