How to fix 2003 Ford Taurus power steering issues?
I replaced the power steering pump on my 2003 Ford Taurus. It still does not work properly. The pump made a loud whining noise after I first started it up. I topped off the fluid, but the steering is still tough. The whining noise has quit, the reservoir is full and the steering is still stiff. What do I do next? It also spit fluid around my engine bay.
The whine makes me think that the belt tensioner is failing. They are only good for so long.
Check and see if the belt is loose or misaligned. Someone will have to turn the wheel while the other person checks the belt and listens for odd noises.
Turne the steering wheel all the way back and forth from one direction to the other for a couple of minutes. Do it slowly and see if the whining goes away and the stiffness goes away as well. If it does not remove pump and make sure the line plugs were removed. Other wise the pump is bad buy a new one and not a rebuilt one.
- What Ford Taurus bumpers (front or rear) would fit a 2003 ford Taurus ses? Looking around and seen someone with a 2004 front bumper on a 2003. Looks nice but curious if any other bumpers would fit? - One side of the power steering rack line on this 91 Ford Taurus is disconnected. Why, and what to do? The power steering rack in my Ford Taurus has a metal rack line that is just laying there unconnected on the front left wheel side of the rack and pinion. Did it just pop out a long time ago? It looks like its been laying there unconnected forever. It seems connected fine on the right hand side, next to the bellows. If I try to plug it back into the fitting for it, will it stay put this time?
- 2001 Ford Taurus power steering fluid leak? My husband bought a new power steering pump and installed it last week, but when he added the power steering fluid it leaked out almost immediately. Any idea of what would cause this?
- 1999 ford taurus gear box/power steering messed up? I started my car up and suddenly the power steering locked on me. The gears wouldn't change. I have power steering fluid in the car and the pump works fine. I had someone check it out and they said whenever I shift gears my engine rocks with it and it slips out of place somehow. Is it worth fixing/how much would it cost or should i just sell it?
