1995 Ford Taurus with a steering issue. When I turn the steering wheel to a certain spot left or right it will start moving back and forth?

According to previous owner the rack and pinion was previously replaced. Steering wheel Is off a little to the right. Any ideas?

I'd go to a Tire Shop and ask them to check the Font End. Tell them what the car is doing. If nothing's loose it has to be the Steering Rack causing that. Worn or missing teeth on the Pinion Gear or the Rack Gear. I'm sure they'll have an opinion too.

That sound like the power steering control valve is failing.

Assuming it has power steering, is the power control valve mounted in the steering column rather than built in to the rack?

Or is the hydraulic cylinder separate to the rack? That guarantees a separate control valve.

(Trace the power steering pipes - if they go direct from the rack to the pump, the valve is in the rack. Otherwise they will go from the rack or cylinder to the valve unit).

This is a typical rack integrated system - the valve is part of the rack:

This is a typical type with separate valve and power cylinder:

The control valve is at the base of the steering column, or on some types it is part way down.
