Added (2). I'm pointing out that the light comes on before it starts because its not the actual 4x4 module thats the issue like everyone assumes from he start.
The warning lights on the dash are supposed to come on before you start it. This is to show you that these lights work.
Do not know what 'selector knob' you are turning.
If your truck won't start, get a free test of the battery and alternator at an auto parts store. But there's a possibility you have a vehicle with more than 150,000 miles. Unless you're the original owner and have already poured a lot of money into upkeep, I'd sell it for whatever you can get.
For a 2001 Ford, you can't assume they will last much longer than 150k.
Does every other light on the dash also come on?
Pretty much every car made in last few decades does this, lets you know they work.
The truck itself runs fine. I've got an 07 with 210k miles lol. Itll still run for a while, too. The 4x4 selector knob… To change it from 2 wheel drive to 4hi, or 4low
Go to the dealer and they will scan the transmission and transfer case for codes.
- I turn the a/ c on in my Ford.Taurus and nothing happens! It is a.94 station.wagon? I checked the fuse panel under the steering column and. They looked o.k. Is there another fuse.panel that.is. Also controlling the air conditioning?
- 99 Ford ranger XLT base model. Park lights, dash lights, and license plates lights out I checked online and realized it was probably a fuse which it is. Fuse 11 in my power distribution box. The problem is I keep replacing at and soon as I turn on my lights it blows instantly. Have replaced it multiple times. So then I looked under my truck and disconnected the wiring to my taillights and replaced the fuse, it worked it didn't blow. Dash lights and license plates lights were on so I figured some where there's a problem with the brake lights. Any suggestions?

The battery has a charge, the alternator is new, and I tried jumping the battery just in case. So I know it's not that. I'm thinking it could be something in the ignition switch because sometimes I have to lift up on the shifter knob for it to register that it's in park and turn over. Any ideas?
- Car ran outta gas. I put half a gallon into it and turn it over, sounds like it 'wants' to start, it 'grabs' for a sec then nothing I tried so many times my battery wore out (old battery). Would could be the problem? No carburetor so its not 'flooded', what to do? Ford focus 2007
