Why won't my car come out of park?

When I tried putting my 1976 Ford Gran Torino into neutral to push it back because it doesn't stay running it wouldn't go out of park I even went under the car to put it into neutral because the linkage is messed up and it still didn't go out of park can someone please tell me what's wrong?

My ex sent me a birthday present. Why?

I said some horrible things and he cheated on me and then broke up with me. This was about three months ago and we'd been going out for two years.
Basically in the card he wrote "I hope you have a great birthday" then "Love (his name)". And he got me a box of my favourite chocolates, a iron man t-shirt (because we both love iron man and he has one just like it and I absolutely loved it), a Tom Ford perfume and a pair of (expensive) rose gold studs.

On another he wrote "Please read this tomorrow (the day after my birthday)" and inside it was a sorry card in which he basically apologized for hurting me and how it was all he could think about for the last few months, he "doesn't know how to make it up" to me, he misses me but he gets that I probably hate him.

I just don't understand why he would do all of that. If he wanted to get back with me, wouldn't he say that in his apology note? I mean the present was so thoughtful and I love it, but it's been three months and I didn't hear anything from him since we broke up. I've pretty much been a state since and I know I'd get back with him if he just asked.

He's the best thing that's ever happened to me and it was those stupid things I said that made him cheat. It's just he hasn't asked and I don't get why he would spend that much on me like that. I feel like **** accepting a present and an apology like that, as if it was all his fault, when I'm half to blame for ruining our relationship. I don't know what to think or do?

Why won't my car lights go out when the battery is unplugged?

A few weeks ago, my Ford Windstar's alternator died, and it has been sitting in the driveway ever since. This afternoon, I got in it to get out a few things. At about 10pm tonight, I noticed that the headlights had mysteriously turned on. I went out to flip switches, only to have the entire dash light up with different flashing symbols. I couldn't get them to turn off, so I unplugged the battery. It seemed that solved the problem but, low and behold, a few minutes ago, I noticed that the headlights are back on… Even though the battery is still unplugged. How is this even possible?
