I need some insurance advice?
So I have had my license for about 3 years now. I've never gotten into a wreck or received a single ticket. A couple of weeks ago, my boyfriend was over and my mom needed us to go to the store for something. He does not own a car so whenever we need to be somewhere, we take mine. The roads were a little wet, and my mom was nervous. She asked my boyfriend to drive because he's a lot older and more experienced than me. He ended up crashing my car. He hit another driver. Their car had minimal damage, but my car was in awful shape. My insurance has since gone up because he apparently doesn't have any. I must now buy a new car and I'm looking at a Ford Mustang. My insurance will continue to go up since it's a sports car. Does anyone have any tips to lower my insurance? I have Progressive.
Insurance rates drop big time when you get married and once again when you turn 25. Don't let your boyfriend drive your Mustang!
Don't buy a Mustang would be the first thing and then don't let anyone drive your car.
Your insurance will stay up for the next 3-5 years.
"My insurance has since gone up because he apparently doesn't have any."
Reason being an automobile has insurance coverage, not a person. The minute you allow your boyfriend to drive your car you took full responsibility for everything and anything that might happen while he was behind the wheel. That is why your insurance costs increased.
What can you do to keep your premiums lower? Drive moving violation and accident free for the next several years. If you do you will eventually see a cost decrease. Also, your insurance costs are very much based on the particular year, make and model of vehicle you own and wish to insure. A Mustang is not a low insurance rate automobile.
Ask for a higher deductible.
That's all nice, but you forgot to say what advice you needed. But since I'm very experienced in auto insurance, let me give you some real information.
1. Your boyfriend didn't have an accident, you did. Accidents are the owner's responsibility, not the driver's. It was your car that caused the accident, you gave the driver (your boyfriend) permission to drive your car, therefore the accident is your responsibility.
2. There's no such thing as a 'sports car rating' with insurance companies. The only thing that matters to them is the value of the vehicle, not the size of the motor, not the number of doors and definitely not the trim package. Just like the hidden red paint surcharge, the sports car classification is a complete myth.
3. Your insurance didn't go up because your boyfriend doesn't have insurance, it went up because your car (therefore you) had an at fault accident.
4. Your boyfriend isn't as good a driver as you and your mother thought. You'll be paying for that mistake for several years.
5. Other insurance providers exist because your current provider doesn't always have the best rates for every driver of every vehicle in every location. Call another broker or six and ask for a quote.
Like the others stated, when you loan your car to someone, you loan out your fault. Even if Boyfriend had insurance, would not matter, since it was YOUR car that was in the accident. The only time, (IF) Boyfriend had insurance would pay, is (IF) your insurance denies the claim, then his becomes secondary for liability only (other car), but would not pay for your car.
Sucks, but this is how auto insurance works.
- What are some good things to do to my 2007 Ford V6 Mustang to get some more power and performance? I want to get more power and better performance out of my V6 and no I don't want to trade up for a V8. I inherited this car and its paid off and only has 11,000 miles on it. Not to mention sentimental value so please leave your hate for V6s for someone else. I just want to know some cost effective ways to get more out of my stang. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
- I need a little advice in buying a new car? I have a great steady job and I can afford to buy a car from the dealership. It is the first time I ever go to a dealership for a car. I'm just wondering if there's any good reliable brands you can recommend to look out for? How is Ford, in your opinion? Also, what are the next steps one takes after buying a new car? Tags, plates, and insurance right?
- First time car buyer: need advice? I would like to buy a car with the following conditions: safe, good gas mileage, easy for me to move seats down in case I move (I don't own much but two furniture pieces I have to put seats down), certified preowned. My family runs within the Toyota, ford and Chevy business but I'm willing to look beyond those as long as the cars aren t notorious for being a lemon. And how much would be good to put down?
- MECHANICS. I NEED ADVICE? Been car shopping for 04-05 Ford F150… I test drove 3 already… They are all 5,4 liter engines… With 130000 mile range… They all drove good but the only thing that kept me from buying was a LOUD click noise coming from the engines… Like… CLACK CLACK CLACK… But when I test drive… They all drove good… So is this normal… For the engine? I looked online… Some say its normal… Some say its a sensor… I don't know… Any advice will help… Thanks…
