What could cause transmission fluid leak in car?

Today i drove my car to the store. My car started acting weird. When I would stop at a light and press on the gass pedal the car would jerk then go. When I turned the car started to drive a different way and the steering wheel felt loose. I imediently stop the car. I get out and there's a pool of transmission fluid leaking from under there front area of the car. I looked like by the radiator. Also it was all over the plastic cover underneath of car. I checked the dipstick and there's no transmission fluid. All other fluids, oil, power steering, break and antifreeze were full. I have a 2009 Ford fusion with 132,000 miles. Anyone have any idea of what it might be and an estimate of cost.

Likely a bad input or output shaft seal or a cracked torque converter or pan. It might be time to junk the car. The cost of a new transmission would be more than or just about the present car's worth. Sorry to say this.

Tell me, has someone who is a dumbazz worked on your car recently? Do you take to to tire and lube places to get repairs done?

Never good when transmission fluid leaks. Especially when you are just at 132,000 miles. Might consider replacing the car. Probably the only fix for your transmission leak is a new transmission. Thats right tere will cost you $2000 or more.

The good news is that is was coming out near the front of the car. So it might just be one of the hoses that connect the transmission to the radiator. Those have leaked on my car more than once. Of course, if that was the case, it would just be coming out slightly, not so bad that you completely ran out of transmission fluid.

The next step is to refill the transmission completely full, and drive it to see if the transmission still functions, or if it has been damaged. After that you inspect the underside of your car thoroughly, so you can see exactly where the leak is coming from. Remember, just because it was dripping out near the front, doesn't mean that's where it's leaking from.

Hi so the transmission must be severely damaged.

If you drove even half a mile with the tranny slipping you'll need a rebuilt transmission. Sounds like a transmission cooler line ruptured.

Overheating, perhaps, temp sensor is out and filter inside the transmission need the replacement. This happen when transmission fluid it get hotter than should. Check exact location of the leak .Fluid can leak from gasket of the pan and also drive axle gaskets, also it can leak from behind of the clutch bearing gasket, which is inside between the motor and transmission. This type of the leak are danger and it can cause high cost, is the best to give it to transmission shop to inspect the leak.

  • Car overheating, slight leak, rattle when accelerate - What could this be? Hi, I have a 1993 ford Taurus. Lately, my car has been overheating and I have noticed that there's a bit of leak. I have been keeping it full and it the temperature was fine. Just a few hours ago, the coolant was full but it skyrocketed to hot and makes a rattling noise when I accelerate. What could this be? I just got an oil change about a week agao, could this be related?
  • 2001 Ford Taurus power steering fluid leak? My husband bought a new power steering pump and installed it last week, but when he added the power steering fluid it leaked out almost immediately. Any idea of what would cause this?
  • Is it ok to drive a car with a transmission fluid leak for a week before getting fixed? I have a 2007 ford ranger with only 38k miles on it, recenntly I have been having minor delays when shifting into drive from reverse before it catches and I actually move forward. So i checked my transmission fluid which seems to be pretty low a good amount below the cross hatched area. So I added more fluid and then saw some leak onto the garage floor within 30mins. I have not seen any leak before, could i still drive it before i get it fixed next week without causing more damage?
  • My 2000 Ford Windstar has a coolant leak. What could be causing it to leak? It has two leaks. One is from the passenger side near the front tire and the second is right below the driver's seat. I have to replace the coolant after I have had the heater on for a bit. I never have it on for more than 15 min. Not because the coolant runs out in that time but I just don't use it for long. I took it to the mechanic and he stated it was the "lower intake manifold gasket". I'm asking if anyone has any other ideas because that repair is pretty pricey.
