Is it ok to drive a car with a transmission fluid leak for a week before getting fixed?
I have a 2007 ford ranger with only 38k miles on it, recenntly I have been having minor delays when shifting into drive from reverse before it catches and I actually move forward. So i checked my transmission fluid which seems to be pretty low a good amount below the cross hatched area. So I added more fluid and then saw some leak onto the garage floor within 30mins. I have not seen any leak before, could i still drive it before i get it fixed next week without causing more damage?
It's not the best idea, be safe
As long as you keep it full and don't let it run out of fluid.
No, I wouldn't recommend it! This vehicle is equipped with the 5R55E these are problematic transmissions anyways, so starving it from fluid causes air in the clutch packs and therefore will cause the friction plates to be stressed and cause burning and glazing of the plates. So when you do get the leak fixed your trans will be like it has 138K on it… Just don't chance it!
Never drive with an ATF leak! When an ATF cooler line ruptures you won't have time to shut the vehicle off before you ruin the transmission! The tow bill will be the least of your concerns.
- WHAT WRONG? No lecture$. LHF brakes metal to metal week+ Today pedal goes to floor No brake power until almost bottom out Fluid not low? 05 AWD Ford Freestyle. Besides grinding all around brakes were fine. Now noise is close to negligible. Replacing Front pads/rotors tomorrow. A must to bleed now? Air in system? Caliper?
- My 2000 Ford Windstar has a coolant leak. What could be causing it to leak? It has two leaks. One is from the passenger side near the front tire and the second is right below the driver's seat. I have to replace the coolant after I have had the heater on for a bit. I never have it on for more than 15 min. Not because the coolant runs out in that time but I just don't use it for long. I took it to the mechanic and he stated it was the "lower intake manifold gasket". I'm asking if anyone has any other ideas because that repair is pretty pricey.
- I'm getting my cdl next year, is it better to have experience driving a bigger vehicle before i get my cdl? I'm getting my class a cdl? I'm going to get a job driving a ford f450 dump truck hauling an excavator on a 20ft equipment trailer… I believe that if i have experience driving a bigger vehicle w/ or w/o a trailer will help, is this true
- How is the fluid from my radiator on my 1996 Ford Thunderbird mixing with my auto transmission fluid? I've asked and asked and no one seems to have an answer. Please any ideas would be helpful to give me some sort of clue as to where to start to get this fixed. The car still runs fine but its starting to effect the gears changing. Please any ideas would help.
