Oil change on my ford focus! Big proublem?
So i was changing the oil on my 2007 for focus today. Took oil out everything good. Took off old filter everything good. BUT! When i was putting the bolt back on the motor to add the new oil, i over tightened the bolt so it just kept spining! Turns out some of the tread from inside the motor came out in the bolt when i took it out. Now it does not tighten good. It does a little but not all the way. What can i do now?
Either you can replace the oil pan or install a helicoil or drill out the hole and tap it and install a different drain plug.
Your local autoparts store sells self-tapping oversize drain plugs for just this problem. Be xtra careful on aluminum pans and bring the old drain plug with you when you go to get a new one. They come in several sizes.
So you decided to play lube boy and change your own oil to save what? Five bucks! Now you need a new oil pan. I suggest you let someone else replace it or you may end up stripping out the oil pan mounting bolts too!
- Does the oil pan have to be removed to change the rear main seal on a ford 3.0L V6 in a 2000 ford ranger? I have the engine removed from the truck and was swaping in a salvaged engine that all checks out good except for a slight leaking rear main seal. So, after inspecting the rear main seal, it appears as though a could just slide it out and a new one in. Does the oil pan need to be removed? Or can I just carefully remove the old seal and clean the surfaces good and install a new one?

He used 7 litters of full synthetic oil 5-30w, I was shocked for a 2.0 liter turbo? I thought full was 5.4 litters on manuel book but I noticed the manuel book is just for a regular focus. I also noticed focus st is a pretty big engine for a 2.0 litter turbo. Anyways is this the full capacity for oil change on focus st?
