97 ford f150 larit tranny issue?

Ok when I'm going 45 50 and I floor it it will rev up and hit the rev limter so I back off the gas and try again and it haul *** and move down the road the tranny fluid looks good and its full what else do you think my tranny gona die it has 250k miles on it everything is orginal only had it for 3 months only thing i've done was oil changes and spark plugs

Try changing the trans fluid using a good quality Mercon V, not 'regular' Mercon.

You'll need to change it more than once, unless you know how to completely drain the transmission. Draining from the pan plug is only a partial drain.

You could also have valve body issues or sensor issues, etc.

How to flush a transmission: You do an ordinary transmission fluid change. Then, you disconnect the top coolant line at the radiator. You add a piece of hose to the coolant line so you can drain fluid into a bucket. You start the motor. Fluid starts shooting out the tube/ coolant line. When it turns from old fluid to new fluid, you shut the engine down. You reattach the coolant line. You add new fluid to fill the transmission. You are done.

A regular changing of the fluid only gets a bit more than half the fluid. The other half is in the torque converter and coolant lines to the transmission. It's called a transmission flush to get 100% of it. You can get one done at Jiffy Lube, Firestone, Midas, etc…

Or, you can look up Transmission Flush on YouTube. New fluid sometimes helps solve transmission problems. Not always - but sometimes.

Hi so it is a gold class MIRACLE that this old FORD truck is even running, as for expecting it to race is a sign of just how stupid you are.

When an automatic transmission starts slipping plan on it failing soon and needing a rebuild.

If fluid level is ok and clean? No funny smells. Then it is possible it may not be major rebuild work. Simple bad adjustment may prove effective but a auto tranny shop can test and give you a full idea of problems .solutions and potential costs.

If the ATF looks good as you should try smelling the dipstick as if it smells burnt you likely have serious transmission issues when a fluid flush won't be enough as you be considering a full on transmission rebuild not after you bought the truck used as you get up to highway speeds before you punch it as gets all the way to the rev limiter when it moves on its own power.

250k miles is a good run for an automatic transmission. Do you know if the transmission fluid had been regularly changed prior to you getting the truck? More specifically do you have proof that it was regularly changed? If you just bought this truck, it's possible that the prior own knew that the transmission was on the way out and changed the fluid to give the appearance that he/she was keeping up on maintenance.

Also you're not hitting the rev limiter if the transmission is in drive. At any rate expect a rebuild in your future, expect to pay around $1500-$2200 to have it done depending on what all needs to be replaced.

Tranny problems eh? Might want to try the Mental Health section lol.

  • Why did my 2000 Ford Windstar just blow all off the tranny fluid out. But now its not leaking anything? I drove it with a trailer attached all day then I dropped the trailer off and drove home. When a was turning on to my street the car violently shuck but kept going I pulled into my drive way and looked under my car and big puddle of tranny fluid everywhere. So I filled it up this morning and drove it 75 miles and when I got back I was still full on fluid and nothing was leaking. So WHY?
  • Tranny replacement, 76 ford, what to get? I'm considering a new tranny in my truck. It has a np435 in it and I want something that will put the power down better. It absolutely has to be a manual though. Suggestions.
  • Any tricks to installing a tranny filter on a 2000 ford taurus? I got it out but the new one won't go back in. There's a lip it seems to be to big to get past. I tryed oil.
  • What desiel engine/tranny should I get in my 69 Ford Mustang? I want to put a desiel engine in my Mustang and I'm pretty sure I can fit a bluetec in it but I'm not sure what transmission I should use to match it. I definitely want a 5 speed manual at the least. And once I have installed the engine and transmission is there any other adjustments I need to make to maximize performance or just keep it from falling apart. And if you can please include the price I would be looking at along with where I could buy the part.
