Knock sensor and brake replacement?

I'm looking into buying a car from a coworker she has a 2003 ford explorer. She says the only issues are the knock sensor and the brakes, is it worth it to buy the car and replace these parts? Can anyone give me an estimate on how much it could cost for parts and labor? Please and thanks

What could cause my car to die at a stop?

My car is an 04 Ford Explorer 4.6L Eddie Bauer. Alternator a rebuild that I put in 5 months ago, battery is still good but will probably need replaced by the end of the year. It starts up, but I need to put my foot on the gas or else it just struggles to start. When the car is running, it'll only stay running when I keep my foot on the gas, or else it just dies (but starts up again fine) RPM's in park/idle are around 500-700 RPM. If the car doesn't die at a stop, the RPM's are around 300-500 RPM. I've heard on these Explorers that it could be the Idle Air Control valve or Mass Air Flow sensors getting really dirty that can cause it, but I'm open to other possibilities as well.

Does techron can make a no start on a car? And what can i do to fix it?

What happened is i put 12oz techron in a almost empty tank on mu ford explorer and after a day. I drove it like 2 mins and i stop on a store. Then after an hour came back and my car won't start but it cranks over. When i drove it it was running fine. What could cause the problem? And i put scantools on it and no code found…

Would you go with a certified pre-owned 2011 Ford Explorer XLT or a new 2015 Nissan Xterra Pro-4X? Why?

I'm in college and I work. Going into Paleontology field and do off-roading. Price is important, but so is practicality. Comfort is obviously nice, but functionality is great. I commute 1.5 hours to school throughout the week so, mpg is important. I use the cargo space. The Explorer has more seating, but I don't need more seating. It also has much more cargo space, with all seats down it has 6ft of space (like a standard truck bed). I would actually use that space to buy supplies and things from Home Depot. I love the Xterra, but i don't know, like the explorer too & I think I get more for my money with the explorer, but it isn't all necessary. Both off road capable, but Xterra is just made for it. Tell me what you think.

Ford Explorer;
2011
leather seats
dual sunroof
more cargo space
nice interior
better mpg
up to 7 seats (2nd & 3rd row fold down)
carpeted cargo area can get dirty
50,000 miles
$24500

Xterra;
2015
better ground clearance
better for getting down & dirty
Roof mounted lights
roof cargo box
anchor points in trunk
5 seats
plastic, durable cargo area
durable, plastic interior, nothing fancy
new so close to no miles
$28500

Both have hill descent control, hill start assist, locking rear differential, 4wd.

Explorer has settings for different terrains like snow, mud, rocks. & Trailer stability control
Xterra has off road suspension.

Will rarely be off road until a few years down the road, but plan to have whichever one for a long time. Major off-roading each summer in MT.

2000 Ford Explorer Smoking?

Alright, I'm not an Automotive guru by any means so any help will be greatly appreciated. My family has owned my 2000 Ford Explorer 2dr Sport for almost 15 years now where it was passed down to me and now has 165,000 miles on it. It had the dreadful OD LIGHT problem about 2 years ago where our local mechanic put a new solenoid pack in it. It stopped up until now. The OD light began to flash while I was out. So I remembered to pull over and reset it and it didn't do it again. I had to go back out and about 10 miles from my house it began to flash again. I pulled over to shut it off and began to smell a burning like smell but it didn't smell sweet like antifreeze. Then I noticed smoke coming out from underneath the hood, I popped the good and waited on traffic to go by so I could step out and by that time the smoke had cleared where I couldn t see where it was coming from. When I got home I read up online about a headgasket problem and I checked my oil but it was not milky. Would any body have any suggestions as to what the problem might be
