How often should I change the oil in my 2003 Ford Explorer?
I have a 2003 Ford Explorer V6 4.0L. The odometer says 214,000 miles but I recently had an engine put in with 83,000 miles. It's been 3k miles later, and I'm wondering when I should change the oil.
I would. Today's conventional engine oils can go between 3000 and 5000 miles on a change in a modern fuel injected car. If you do a lot of stop and go or dusty driving, then I would change the oil closer to the 3000 mile mark, otherwise closer to the 5000 mark.
Every 3 months or 3,000 miles, religiously.
If you use fully synthetic it can go to annually or 12,000 miles.
According to FORD, the recommendation is every 3000 miles. Typically every 5000-7000 is sufficient, especially if you use modern synthetics or synthetic blended oils, which are most prevalent on the market today. You should check the fluids EVERY TIME you add fuel to the vehicle and seek to change it, and the filter within a month, after the oil changes from Yellow/orange/tan to black. Each time you change the oil, air filters, should be checked, and inspect all rubber - hoses and belts. Once per season, you should check and rotate the tires, inspect brakes while the tires are off, inspect the suspension, turning points, lubricate where needed.
