What would happen if i put the wrong oil in my car?

I have a 94 ford escort and i put 10w40 in it, it had no oil at all, and i was supposed to use 5w30. Will this have any effect on my car?

If it would make much difference, it would be in extremely cold weather.

Better than no oil. But you really should get it changed to the right oil

In very cold weather the cylinder-heads-seals would have to much friction and damage but now that the weather is getting warmer, it will not make much difference between 10w40 oil and 5w30, however, better is to use only the oil that is specified by the original factory that build the engine.

You may get lifter noise. That probably isn't going to ruin the motor like you're doing by not changing the oil and filter every 3,000 miles. You run a motor until there's no oil remaining and the bearings will wear and seize up. Not to smart are you?!
