My mechanic put 5w30 oil in my ford ranger instead of 5w20. What could go wrong?
Took my 2007 2.3L ford ranger in for an oil change, and they put 5W30 oil in it instead of the 5W20 that is shown in the book. Will this cause any problems, should i call them and have it changed/?
You'll be fine, unless you will be driving in temperatures below 20F regularly in the next 3 months.
Many 5W-30 oils are conventional oil. (shorter drain interval)
Your engine should use 5W-20 oil which is a synthetic blend.
Let's not worry about the slower pumping ability at 75°F, (less oil flow), the slightly less mpg due to higher frictional losses, the fact that 5W-20 cools the engine internals better(reducing carbon deposits and stuck oil rings)… The additional bearing wear was notable though minut. We did desert testing for Ford back in the old days… There's only one 5W-30 I'd leave in, Mobil1 full synthetic, It's specs are very close to 20 on viscosity and flows well at room temp.
You as a consumer were given the wrong product for your car, one it was not engineered to use. Return for the 5W-20 which will be the best oil for your engine no matter if your part of the planet is going into summer or winter.
No. I ran that in my rangers with no problems. Check the level if you had someone else change it.
Not worth worrying about.
- I have a 99 ford ranger that won't start. What could be wrong with it? None of the lights work, lock buttons won't work, absolutely nothing works. I tried jumping it and that didn't work. The truck doesn't make the clicking noise when i try to start it. I know nothing about cars. I just want a general idea of what could be wrong. I don't like going to mechanics without a vague idea of what could be wrong. I've had mechanics do a lot of stuff that didn't need to be done and it costed way to much
- 99 ford ranger clicks once, but won't start what could be wrong? The truck was running fine, but the day before yesterday it wouldn't start. All the lights and stereo come on so its not the battery. When you turn the key it clicks once but doesn't start. All the plugs are new and the belts, and the transmission is new too.
- Oil viscosity 10w30 vs 5w20? Been using 10w30 oil in 96 ford winstar and found out it should be 5w20 which am guessing is thinner is 10w30 too big a diff from 5w20 or is it ok its been 2yrs on 10w30
- Is the mechanic right or is he wrong? Had to put a engine in my ford another 4.6 I had to change the throttle body all 4 O2 sensors MAF sensor EGR valve and the injectors. I think my catalytic converters are clogged cause I lost all power driving it and my valves rattle too could that be it or is the mechanic right on me needing a engine due to the " so called EGR valve" being stuck open and burning my cylinders up? Need to know!
