99 ford ranger clicks once, but won't start what could be wrong?
The truck was running fine, but the day before yesterday it wouldn't start. All the lights and stereo come on so its not the battery. When you turn the key it clicks once but doesn't start. All the plugs are new and the belts, and the transmission is new too.
With the fact that it was running fine and suddenly the symptoms appeared I'd guess one of two things. First have that battery checked under load. A battery can show 12v on a meter but when its placed under heavy load like trying to start the engine that voltage drops way down. There's still enough power to light the lights but nowhere near enough to start the engine. Once you eliminate the battery check every positive cable connection between the battery and the starter starting at the battery terminals. Remove and clean both sides of every connection all the way to the starter. Then do the same on the negative cable terminal as well as the connection to the engine block. Never, ever start replacing batteries, alternators or starters until those connections have been eliminated.
It might be a loose wire or you could have a bad battery or your battery might be dead. Do a 24 hour trickle charge on the battery. And if it still clicks check the terminals and if that doesn't work the battery is probley bad. And if that doesn't work you might want to take it to a mechainic because it would probley be the starter
- I have a 99 ford ranger that won't start. What could be wrong with it? None of the lights work, lock buttons won't work, absolutely nothing works. I tried jumping it and that didn't work. The truck doesn't make the clicking noise when i try to start it. I know nothing about cars. I just want a general idea of what could be wrong. I don't like going to mechanics without a vague idea of what could be wrong. I've had mechanics do a lot of stuff that didn't need to be done and it costed way to much
- 2002 ford ranger wants to start but won't? I took the truck threw a mud hole. Made it threw then truck stalled. I got it to start back up but it was blowing out some smoke so friends convinced me to just let it sit and dry. I did that and now it won't start at all. It acts like it wants to but just won't.
- 2001 Ford Ranger clicks once then won't turn over, and when key is turned off, it begins making a clicking relay noise under the dash? - 1 I've had this happen before, and the last couple times I just undid the battery and put it back in and it started right up. The battery has a charge, the alternator is new, and I tried jumping the battery just in case. So I know it's not that. I'm thinking it could be something in the ignition switch because sometimes I have to lift up on the shifter knob for it to register that it's in park and turn over. Any ideas?
- 2000 Ford ranger won't start, but still has power? It has a brand new battery, battery cables, ignition switch, starter, and starter relay. Yet when I get in it has power enough that everything comes on, but if I turn the key once, the entire truck goes dead. I can reset the battery, and the process will begin again. I don't have anymore ideas.
