Water went inside my intake manifold now engine is jammed?
Water escaped inside my intake manifold, on my 5.4L ford v8 while the car wasn't running. I removed the spark plugs and found a lot of water in some cylinders however it is not cranking even by the crank bolt with a breaker bar, if i empty the engine oil and change oil will that help?
Don't put too much pressure on the crank bolt. Instead, take the inspection cover off the trans &use a large screw driver on the flywheel teeth. Broken Crank bolt repairs are a nightmare. Now, how did the water get in there? Engine & plugs together all the time? Intake manifold on all the time? Air filter duct work on all the time? If so, You gotta take the heads off & fix the blown head gaskets ya have. Now, with the heads off, dry out the cylinders, put a teaspoon or so of motor oil in each one, coat the walls with oil, now try to spin the engine. Work it back & forth, both ways and she might free up.
Did you take all the spark plugs out? Or just a couple? It sounds like "hydrostatic lock". Water (liquid) doesn't compress. You can bend a rod or worse if you try to turn engine with water in cylinder with piston in compression stroke. Take all spark plugs out and try to turn engine with a breaker bar. If you haven't already caused damage it should rotate. If you do the screw driver on flywheel you will get too much leverage and distroy something. If engine does turn blow out any water with compressed air, through empty spark plug holes when each piston is at TDC.
- Will water flood the inside of a car? Say that you drop an empty car into a deep pool of water (deeper than the height of the car), will the inside of the car flood? I know it is a stupid question, but I sort of want to know the answer to that question. I have seen land rovers ford some rivers and they seem fine even when the water was up to the vehicle's hood.
- Vacuum leak between carburetor and intake manifold? I have a 1966 ford f100 with a 390. After taking off the carb to clean it, I noticed a rough idle and fuel leaking from between the carburetor and intake manifold. So I replaced the gasket with a gasket specifically for Holley carburetors, but that didn't stop the leak. Any ideas? Would there be any reason the manifold or bottom of the carb would need to be resurfaced? Is sealant ever used?
- Power steering went out after driving through water? I had to drive to work in a storm today. I drive a 2007 Ford Taurus 105, xxx miles, and I went around a corner and I completely lost steering in my car mid turn. This is the first time this has ever happened to my car. I slowed down drastically and then maybe 10 seconds later my power steering came back with a loud screech. Should I be worried about it going out again? I checked my steering fluid and it's topped off. Anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?
- Rubber hose at intake manifold? I have a Ford Contour and need to know what and where the soft rubber hose at the intake manifold is. I just need to know what it is and where I can go buy one. I want to order it and install it as soon as possible. Please don't suggest asking a mechanic or auto store.
