Power steering went out after driving through water?

I had to drive to work in a storm today. I drive a 2007 Ford Taurus 105, xxx miles, and I went around a corner and I completely lost steering in my car mid turn. This is the first time this has ever happened to my car. I slowed down drastically and then maybe 10 seconds later my power steering came back with a loud screech. Should I be worried about it going out again? I checked my steering fluid and it's topped off. Anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?

Did the belt snap? Power steering pumps are powered by a pulley. Very rare to have full electric power steering.

The accessory drive belt got wet when you drove through the puddle, and that caused the belt to slip on your power steering pump. To avoid it happening again, stay out of puddles. And have your steering pump checked, It may be getting ready to fail.

Go and get the power steering belt(AC Belt) tighter.

Have your belt and tensioner checked out… Somethings not right… Your belt could be too long (there's a length difference on your car, belts from 85.0-85.75 are sold, get one from the dealer order by VIN), worn out or spring tension is too weak…
. I know people that drive through river crossings that require you make a turn while in water you can roll the windows down and splash…
