Price for Firestone tuneup sound okay?
I have a 2005 ford escape 6 cylinder xlt, 170k on it, got quoted $320 for an engine tuneup at Firestone. Sounded outrageous to me a first, did some research and apparently a standard tuneup runs anywhere from 200-600?
Added (1). Update: the work is the plugs, fuel system cleaning (not the filter, i asked about that), and the air filter. The labor will take 3 hours because of the difficult location of the plugs.
Three hours labor for changing plugs? That's ridiculous. Plus, Firestone is not know to be the best quality automotive service center on the planet. Get a second estimate on the service at a local reputable independent auto service center.
The term "tune up" is a hold-over from years past when engines actually required regular tune-ups to run at peak efficiency and power.
Although the term still remains in use today, it really only refers to changing the spark plugs and maybe checking the condition of the filters and fluids.
As mentioned by lanab, find out what is actually included with that service.
Find out what they are actually replacing for that money. Just the plugs, then it's expensive. Plugs, leads, filters and All the other stuff that might need replacing, then that's cheap. Hence the $200-600 range, depends how much they actually do.
Are you getting $200 of work, or ~$600 of work?
Geez, just do it yourself. You can get non-generic spark plugs for $40 and ignition cables for another $40. All you need is a spark plug socket, a torque wrench, and 15 minutes.
Thats fine. Because they have to remove the upper intake manifold to access the rear three plugs
Let me get this straight… You're comfortable having a high school drop out tire changer tune your motor?! LMAO!
Call a dealer and see what they are charging…
- Did the Ford Ranger roll over when it was equipped with Firestone tires? I know of a Ford Explorer use to roll over in the nineties because it was equipped with tire blow out of Firestone tires. Ford Ranger at the time were also equipped with Firestone tires. If a Ford Ranger is equipped with Firestone tires is it really possible for it to roll over like the Ford Explorer.
- How does New car pricing work? Will demand raise the price? I want the 2015 mustang ecoboost. (Not asking your opinion on the car, thanks). Ford just released the prices, and they said $25,900~. Does that mean that's what I'll pay at a dealer? Excluding taxes and title? How much should I expect to pay excluding tax and title?
- How much can I talk down the price of a $1500 Ford Pickup? I've come across an ad on Craigslist for a 1981 Ford Larait f-100 pickup. It's missing the tailgate and has a small dent on the passenger fender. It has 116,000 miles on the original engine. The bench seat has a few tears and rips in it as well. He's asking $1500 for it. Now currently I have $850 cash. How much should I try talking him down? How do I do that? Is it worth even trying? Thanks! Here's the listing: http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/cto/4516751355.html
- Half quart over in oil, is that okay? 2005 Freestar. Thought it took almost 6 qts like my Duratec in my othrr Ford. Maybe half quart over and couple hundred miles from home on vacation. Should I buy a 15mm box wrench for a few bucks and drain it off, or is it not a big deal.
