Is buying a used Ford F250 a good investment?

I'm considering buying a used diesel truck. It is a 2004 F-250 Super Duty Lariat with the 6.0L Powerstroke motor. 107k miles, lifted, all leather interior, bulletproofed, flawless. It is being sold for 19, which is a lot. I gotta trade my car in, and negotiate. Lets say i got it down to 16.5, or 17. Is that a good investment over time? Would it depreciate more over time than a say 2008 or 2010 vehicle?

It is in pristine condition and is flawless. I plan on having it for a very, very long time. 6-10 years what I'm aiming for. I take very good care of my vehicles and I'm IN LOVE with this truck, I test drove it yesterday. Can anyone provide insight on my situation?

Unless you plan on buying a rare, collectible vehicle, no used car can be considered an "investment" because they never increase in value, much less hold it. Let's say you're able to get the price down $1000 (about the best you can expect) you can plan on it depreciating at least $1000 per year, if not more. Unless you have stellar credit, a good income and a big down payment so you can get a low interest rate, I predict that you will soon be upside down and owe more than you can sell it for. The only logical reason to purchase such a vehicle would be to use it for a business where you can write off depreciation and other costs as a business expense. Buy with your head, not your heart.

Sure is will last for 15 years

Ford = rust

A vehicle (except for a rare, collectable vehicle) is not an investment. It is a depreciating asset that loses value every year.

Don't be silly .investment? Rubbish .investments are meant to go in value.

Vehicles are not investments. Unless all your investments are designed to lose money.

99.9% of automobiles are not "investments". That term shouldn't even be in your mind.

They depreciate. A lot. Like clockwork.

Ok… First of all, I know how you feel…(falling in love) with a truck… However, that is FAR too much money for a 2004, I don't care if its lifted and everything… You should be able to find a 08 for less then 19K… If you look around, you can find an 04 in nice shape for around 8 to 10K, then have it lifted yourself… Anything more than a 4 inch lift is going to cause you problems… It changes your drive line angles too much, and is VERY hard on components… The only vehicle thats an investment these days, is a 63 Corvette, or something like that…

You need to understand what an investment is. It's something that increases in value over time.
If you think a used Ford is going to rise in value you need professional help. Its value will drop like a stone.

  • I'm buying a used vehicle today, Does it need to be inspected again? I'm buying a 1999 Ford Taurus today from a Private owner. The owner has had the vehicle inspected months earlier, and the car passed and is currently running fine. Does the car need to be reinspected once I buy the car to get my own tags on it?

What do I look for when inspecting it? Thanks! http://maine.craigslist.org/cto/4454973116.html
  • Do you think buying a used certified truck from a rental car company is a good idea? I was looking to buy a certified ford f150 from a respectable dealership. It has the certified warranty with it. It is a 2017 with 17,000 miles on it. It came from enterprise rental cars. Do you think the car was beat up as its time as a rental car or it being a certified car they would have found its problems.
