I'm buying a used vehicle today, Does it need to be inspected again?
I'm buying a 1999 Ford Taurus today from a Private owner. The owner has had the vehicle inspected months earlier, and the car passed and is currently running fine. Does the car need to be reinspected once I buy the car to get my own tags on it?
Buyer beware! A car driven at all could have problems.
I once had a Porsche dealership mechanic tell me that a car driven at all is a used car and a part can fail at anytime.
So think about this… The guy has his car inspected. Then he drives it for 3 months, the water pump fails he replaces it under his shade tree and doesn't use the right sealant, the plugs need to be replaced but he doesn't, he doesn't change the oil, he doesn't inspect the tires (a tire can lose a pound of pressure per month) and doesn't add air, he overlooks the cooling system, the car overheats and he just puts water in not coolant nor does he look for the cause, he then decides to sell the car… Who gets the under maintained car… YOU!
Even if the environmental inspection is current you need to have an independent technician inspect the car.
They inspect the car not the owner. Your good until it expires.
In Ohio, the emissions test is good for 12 months and is attached to the car only. So as long as the seller gave the buyer the emissions test printout, the buyer does not need another test.
I think this can vary by state.

It depends on where you live. In California you need to have an emmissions test when vehicles change hands.
You said inspected months earlier… Things can change on a daily basis. Parts fail with use. The car is an OBD2 so you can take it for a free scan for any codes and take it for a test drive… I would worry more about a blown head gasket with those types of cars.

- Things to know before buying a new or used vehicle? It's my first major choice. Please help and yes I'm going anonymous because I don't want to be judged. Do I pay exactly what the sticker says? Am I supposed to ask questions? What should I know and what is the best choice if you please? Ford's seem like durable vehicles that are easy to work on or I don't know just help please?!

- What to look for when buying a used 2004 Ford Mustang? I'm going to look at a 2004 Ford Mustang this week. It has 101,000 miles on it. If I but it it will be my first car, so I want to make sure that it is in great shape and won't break down in me. Check the link and tell me if it is a good deal. What do I look for when inspecting it? Thanks! http://maine.craigslist.org/cto/4454973116.html
