Driving across the nullarbor?

Hi everyone I'm planing to drive my 1999 ford laser kn lxi hatchback from Torquay victoria to Perth WA and I will be crossing the nullarbor. Could anyone give me some advice? Also would driving in my Laser be a good idea? My friend is coming along so we will take turns in driving. I will not be driving back again. It is an auto and in good condition other then a few stone chip's in the paint everything in it work's and the aircon work's very well.

Any Advice would be great thank you. I have drove it down from queensland to Victoria so i have done some long distance driving before and i was alone at the time.

I will be traveing in January

Nullarbor is easy these days, apart from keeping awake. Roads are good but fatigue is the main problem. As the signs show, watch out for kangaroos, emus, and camels. Last time I went across in July, there was a dead young camel on the side of the road. Imagine what that'd do to your car. Also, be careful of the road trains. One time, going across, I gave a lift to a couple of young blokes where the inexperienced driver had got scared passing a road train because the rear trailer had fishtailed a little so he headed off into the mulga. Wrote his car off. Don't worry about the roadtrains. They only fishtail a little.
Get your Laser serviced before you go, especially the cooling system.
There are road houses every couple of hundred kms. The Nullarbor roadhouse has the most expensive petrol, so try and skip it. Petrol is generally 1/3 more expensive across the Nullarbor.
Take water with you as it's at a premium across the Nullarbor. It will be mid summer and very high temperatures. What water is available is mainly bore water.
If you have any more questions, contact me.
Have a good trip.

  • Listed as driving an ATV on my speeding ticket when I was driving a Truck? I live in Minnesota and received a speeding ticket yesterday. When I looked it over it said the vehicle was an ATV. I was driving a Ford Truck. Is this how they list all trucks on tickets or did the officer make a mistake. The citation was correct just not the type of vehicle.
  • Every car I get the clutch goes, am I driving bad? First car was a Peugeot 206 2004 - 68,000 miles My car now is a ford ka 2008 - 45,000 miles Is it my driving or just the cars? Also how long before the clutch goes? It is rattling when I press on the clutch and also the gears were slipping and hard to get into today.
  • Car noise when started, goes away within few minutes after I start driving? Any one can help me? I took a short video below. Thanks! The car is a 2002 FORD focus. The noise is there when I start the car after it is sitting there overnight or two nights. It goes away within few minutes after I start driving.
  • 2002 Ford Focus won't start after driving on the highway for 15 minutes? I have a 2002 Ford Focus LX with about 130,000 miles on it. If I drive it on the highway for about 15 minutes, when I finally turn the car off, it won't start back up unless I get a jump or if I let it sit for about 2 hours. I've gotten a new alternator a new battery and new battery terminals (old ones were corroded). Can someone please tell me what's wrong with my car, I'm tired of wasting money on things that don't need to be fixed.
