Every car I get the clutch goes, am I driving bad?
First car was a Peugeot 206 2004 - 68,000 miles
My car now is a ford ka 2008 - 45,000 miles
Is it my driving or just the cars?
Also how long before the clutch goes? It is rattling when I press on the clutch and also the gears were slipping and hard to get into today.
We don't know how you drive. We also don't know how previous owners drove. The way to kill a clutch is to hold the car stationary on an incline using the clutch rather than the handbrake. You see lots of drivers doing it and they will have early clutch failure. My Citroen Picasso has done 94,000 miles with no clutch problems. But I have owned it from new. It will pay you to get the clutch replaced sooner rather than later as gearbox wear will occur.
I get about 140000 miles out of my clutches!
The clutch pedal is either all the way down or all the way up! It is not like the brake pedal (used only as much as needed)- it is an all or nothing thing!
I adjust my seat so that the clutch pedal can be fully depressed to the floor board with out extending the foot.
Now I'm an "aggressive driver", so it is not jack rabbit starts or even engine braking for turns. But I don't heel and toe around corners (I do use throttle steer).
So either your foot is on the clutch pedal using it or not on it at all, and don't feather it any more then absolutely necessary (use it for holding position on a hill).
Could be that yuo are just unlucky or could be that you are slipping the clutch when going round bends rather than being in the correct gear too much or maybe just slipping it too much when pulling away from standstill
Do not coast around bends with your foot on the clutch but be in the correct gear for the correct speed before starting to turn
Check that you are not resting your foot on the clutch pedal in any way between changes - remove your foot completely from the pedal when not pressing it.
I expect to get in excess of 100000 miles from a clutch
You need to get your driving looked at talk to a local driving school. Clutches are expensive.
Some folk "ride the clutch" Their foot is always slightly touching it, no good for it.
