Truck lacking power feels like its missing but it is not?
I have a 1998 Ford F-150 4.6 v8, Automatic transmission. Started driving it this morning and it felt like the truck wanted to bog down. Had no power almost felt like it was misfiring but it wasn't that bad. When I put the truck in neutral it goes away and I won't feel what feels like a misfiring, but when I put it back in drive it will do it. Again when I put it in drive and drive it it feels power less and truck seems like it does not want to go over 2500 rpm at all. But when I put it in neutral I can rev it over 2500 and it doesn't hesitate. Could this be a tranny problem? I think the tranny is slipping.
Could be your engine mounts or tranny mounts. If the vibrations only occur when engaging the transmission (i.e. Everything is OK or more relieved while in Park/Neutral) then I'd start here, especially if you don't have a check engine light. Mounts will not flag a check engine light directly.
Your mounts could be causing the engine to rock back and forth, which may cause it to interfere with the drive belt, etc., which is disrupting normal operation. This can very easily cause shaking/"earthquake-like" shuddering when in Drive and even hesitation accelerating if the mounts are causing the engine to contact the drive belt, for example.
Do you hear a groaning noise while in reverse and backing up? You can try parking your truck on an incline, parking for 5 minutes, then going into Drive. If you feel a jolt, your engine mount(s) is/are bad.
Replace the fuel filter and see if that helps- classic signs of a clogging fuel filter. Much more fuel in needed to rev a car under a load than in neutral.
- Why did my 2000 Ford Windstar just blow all off the tranny fluid out. But now its not leaking anything? I drove it with a trailer attached all day then I dropped the trailer off and drove home. When a was turning on to my street the car violently shuck but kept going I pulled into my drive way and looked under my car and big puddle of tranny fluid everywhere. So I filled it up this morning and drove it 75 miles and when I got back I was still full on fluid and nothing was leaking. So WHY?
- 2001 Ford Taurus, 156k miles. Today started missing and skipping, low to no power? Idles smooth, takes off slow. Sluggish going up hill, but will go faster down hill. Push down on the gas- little change. Ck engine light is on of course. Any idea what it could be?
- My truck starts acting like its misfireing? When the truck is cold it runs perfect… Then after about five ten min it start skipping and losing power and sometimes won't idle and you give it gas and it starts poping and backfiring. And after it warms up it won't get above 2800 rpms its a 88 ford f 150 302 I put a fuel pump tank and filter doing the same the plugs have about 7000 miles on them
- I have a 1995 ford f150 5.8 engine that feels like is misfiring? As I have the truck on park or as I'm on a stop light the truck starts shaking. But it gets worse when I get up to speed the the truck runs fine till I need some more power then it starts shaking again. At times it feels like the transmission is going bad but I took it in and they told me that it was not that, but that it could be a bad ignition coil. What do you guys think? I cleaned the egr valve and it did not fix anything.
