Would you buy a 1984 Ford E 250 Van? It has a rebuilt automatic transmission. The engine misfires. They are selling it for $950?

Added (1). TY to all in advance.

If I wanted a van I would, I just bought an 89 Ford Lariat for $1,000. The heater don't work and the driver's side power window doesn't work and I have to open the transit window on the driver's side to get in. It's a 4x4 and that's what I need for the farm and I think I got a good deal on it, and it passed DEQ.

If I needed a van, I would be looking for something less than 20 years old. BTW, don't believe anything about repairs on a used car or truck, unless the owner shows you receipts. Even then, be skeptical.

It's a very old van. Check it thoroughly for rust. Rust is frequently a major issue for old vehicles. Rust can be hidden, so you may need help checking it out.

Misfire could be minor but I would only buy it if I were planning to rebuild the engine. As part of the initial effort. I would get to the bottom of the misfire.

Depends on how the rest of it is. If it's in good shape, maybe. Injectors clogged a lot on those things and could be the misfire issue. You'll be taking a chance and will probably spend another grand bringing everything up to snuff.

1984 Ford van doesn't have fuel injection, it is has a carburetor. Ford trucks weren't injected until 1987. The miss is most likely a weak ignition amplifier (DuraSpark Module). Should be on the driver side wheel apron although on a van it may not be. Just trace the wires from the distributor to an aluminum case about 4 inches wide and long. The plug wires are also a leading cause of ignition miss as these were lean burn engines that stress the ignition system more than older designs. These models (1980-1986) are tough and reliable and best of all parts are pretty cheap for them.

1980's engines are easy to rebuild and buy a front end kit for $90 to replace ball joints, brakes do the same, great sound system, new tires, dual headers, seat covers, floor mats and a nice paint job you have a $2500 truck you can call your own that in a auction could sell for 30k…

With a misfire it is about 0 too expensive.
Offer $95.
A misfire puts fuel in the oil and does other damage.
