Is it worth it to put a rebuilt transmission and engine in a car?

I saw a used Ford truck online for sale. It only needs a new transmission and engine. Would it be worth putting the money into a 1993 Ford Ranger?

"It only needs an engine and transmission"

If a car needs both an engine, and a transmission, it needs a lot more than that.

Not unless you can do the work or knows someone that works cheap. If you paid regular prices to get the parts and replace them it would be more than the truck is worth. You'd be better off buying a good running truck. Or one that just needs a transmission. Only a mechanic would be interested in that truck and would have to be $500 or less.

Another troll question, I see. Go for it - it will keep you busy.

Do you have an extra engine or transmission already sitting in your garage?
If you do, then it may be adventageous to buy a truck without an engine so you can swap in and use that engine sitting in your garage and free up some space on the engine hoist.
If you don't already have an extra engine sitting around, or have a friend, relative or some low cost/free source of an extra engine, then it probably isn't so interesting. Buying a freshly rebuilt engine may be more expensive than buying a truck with a running engine.
