Why did the ford windstar be removed from the line up?
Why did the ford windstar be removed from the line up?
It had a spectacularly horrible reputation. Ford reworked it as the Freestar, and eventually gave up on minivans entirely in favor of SUVs and crossovers.
What he said - changed to the freestar
It had a long and storied history for head gasket failure, and transmission failure, and electrical problems.
In our family we had no fewer than *five* Windstars, a 1995 (number 68 off the line). It had a transmission failure and a blown head gasket in the first two years my dad had it (it was a company car)
We had a 1995.5 model (there were some mid year updates). It also suffered a blown head gasket at around the 60k mile mark, and a transmission failure around the 70k mile mark, the catalytic converter literally blew out at the 90k mile mark and a head gasket blew again at the 120k mile mark, at which point we donated it to charity.
We had a 1998 model (another company car), it suffered a head gasket failure and a transmission failure
We had a 2001 model, (company car) it didn't suffer a head gasket failure, but the transmission went out
Finally there was a the 2003 model (company car) it managed to make it 90k miles without any major problem.
At this point the company my Dad worked for switched to Honda Odysseys, after years of problematic Windstars. They proved to be better in basically every way.
I'm a Ford guy, but the Windstars were turds. Ford even changed the name to Freestar because the Windstar had garnered such a poor reputation.
- Will a 2000 Ford Windstar lx fuse box diagram be the same as a 2003 Ford Windstar fuse box? I found a link about a 2003 but I need to know if it'll be the same for a 2000. If it ain't can anyone help me out with a link showing information like this but about a 2000 model? Thanks. http://www.fixya.com/cars/t11808484-2003_ford_windstar_fuse_box_diagram
- Why did my 2000 Ford Windstar just blow all off the tranny fluid out. But now its not leaking anything? I drove it with a trailer attached all day then I dropped the trailer off and drove home. When a was turning on to my street the car violently shuck but kept going I pulled into my drive way and looked under my car and big puddle of tranny fluid everywhere. So I filled it up this morning and drove it 75 miles and when I got back I was still full on fluid and nothing was leaking. So WHY?
- One side of the power steering rack line on this 91 Ford Taurus is disconnected. Why, and what to do? The power steering rack in my Ford Taurus has a metal rack line that is just laying there unconnected on the front left wheel side of the rack and pinion. Did it just pop out a long time ago? It looks like its been laying there unconnected forever. It seems connected fine on the right hand side, next to the bellows. If I try to plug it back into the fitting for it, will it stay put this time?
- Does the oil pan have to be removed to change the rear main seal on a ford 3.0L V6 in a 2000 ford ranger? I have the engine removed from the truck and was swaping in a salvaged engine that all checks out good except for a slight leaking rear main seal. So, after inspecting the rear main seal, it appears as though a could just slide it out and a new one in. Does the oil pan need to be removed? Or can I just carefully remove the old seal and clean the surfaces good and install a new one?
