Oil check light flickering below 1,000 RPM?

I'm driving ford Taurus SES 2002. It will ONLY happen after driving for about 10 to 15 minutes. Once the engine is in idle ( below 1000 RPM ) it will start flickering and sometime just stay on until I push the Gas pedal.

It started right after I changed my oil for the first time after bought the car (Jan 2014). So I changed the oil couple of months ago and about 1 week later it started acting like this. I brought the car to the same mechanic and they told me it's because of the oil pump (after investigation). I called different mechanics and they say different things, like they said it might be because of bad oil filter that they installed (NOT craft). So I took the car to the lube stop and after checking the oil filter they said it was so loose and I had lost half of my oil. They fixed it and had it tight, pure some oil to the engine. I thought if the problem has been solved but after driving for about 10 minutes the problem came back. I changed the oil pressure censor with my friends car and I still have the problem!

please someone help me figure this out.

Try to do a search on Google, maybe that will work out

If your oil level is correct, the only other possibility is old oil or oil that is too thin. Use a heavier grade oil ; if using 5W30 go up to 10W30 or 10W40.

Besides the great suggestions, may I pass on another possibility?
Check the sensor relay switch and/or the connections between.

Either it is low on oil or the oil pump is going out

Check your oil level first (you didn't notice big oily spots under your car where it has been parked). Make sure the level is correct - your trust in lube places is misguided - always check yourself (trust but verify).

If oil level is correct - are you using the correct weight and type of oil and filter (look it up again in the owners manual). Fix as necessary.

Here is a good read - apparently not an unknown problem - http://www.taurusclub.com/forum/82-maintenance-repair/152795-engine-oil-light-flickers.html

  • What would cause my 2004 Ford E350 5.4L 8cyl to have 2,000 rpm at idle and in neutral? The van has 113,000 miles. Plugs changed at 100,000 miles. When started the rpms are at 2,000. Occasionally they will drop 100-200 rpm for 1-2 seconds then right back to 2,000 rpm. While driving there's no problem as long as the van is in drive. Once in a great while after driving around for a while it will be normal rpm when I put it in park. But usually works its way back to 2,000 rpm. Should I try to clean the throttle body or change the tps sensor? Any help will be much appreciated.
  • 2003 Ford Taurus SES oil light and gas cap light? My cars oil light (red) and gas cap light (yellow light down and left from the oil light) is on in my car. I used a scan tool and no codes came up. It's not leaking oil and everything is fine. I just do not know why the two lights are on? I bought the car about two months ago and the lights were on before i bought the car… any reason they're on?
  • My interior lights were flickering on and off, what could be the problem? My interior lights were flickering on and off but I wasn't driving or anything. I had it in park and I did have the driver s door open it was night time too. I don't know what could be the problem btw it's a ford 500 2005. It was raining all day so maybe the water gpt inside something but it wasn't raining when I had the door open. Oh btw it was also making a service ding ding npise too with every flickering.
  • What RPM should my car idle while driving and what RPM should I shift? I have a 2003 Ford Mustang V6. 5 speed manual transmission. This is not the first manual car I've owned, but I'm curious. I never really look but I've read in some places that in order to save gas you should shift at 2 RPM before I used to shift at around 3-3.5 RPM. Also what's a good RPM my car should idle at while I'm in gear? Let's say I'm driving in 3rd gear. What's the ideal RPM to stay at before needing to shift.
