Is a 2011 Ford Taurus a good first car?

I'm a 16 year old guy and I like the newer Ford Taurus. I like full-size sedans that AWD and have many options to choose from. I really want a 2010-12 Ford Taurus Limited AWD. I don't really need a vehicle right now and I don't want something old because it might not be well taken care of and totally unreliable. I know you're probably thinking "You're parents must be rich" or "It'll just be crashed in 2 days anyway." Well, my parents aren't rich and I'm a better driver than some people I've rode with. I plan on buying this car after I graduate from high school. I will be 18 after I graduate and a month or 2 before I go to college. I'm going to work and save up money to buy it. I want to pay cash the whole thing. I don't really want to finance any vehicle because I'll be in college. If I have to finance, I want to have a majority of the money for the down payment because payments will be lower. I don't want to finance unless, I absolutely have to and payments are reasonable ($100 or less per month). Should I do this? Why or why not?

Also, does the SEL have ambient lighting? Can I get the SEL with navigation and a backup camera?

Added (1). Miatas are nice but, that is way to small and it's now AWD. Cars like BMW and Mercedes are too expensive to work on.

Added (2). I like the bold, mature looks of the 2010-12 Taurus. I like how it looks like it wouldn't be owned by someone young.

What a boring first car, get a German car instead.

or a 1st gen Miata.

btw used cars are the best thing in the world don't h8 m8.

It sure is a good car.

No - way too new. New drivers should have old cars. Insurance statistics say a good driver will have a 60% chance of wrecking in the first year, 80% in the first three years (I made it to year 3). Here is how you can get caught in the trap. If you finance the car The General (for comparison) will give you minimum coverage for $381 per month in my area. If you are buying cash it would be only $149 per month, but with payments you are required to have collision coverage. If you wreck it and the insurance has to pay collision, you normally have to repay it in higher rates over a three year period. Say they have to pay $18,000; that increases your insurance payments $500 per month for three years. If your parents were helping before they are not likely to pay for another three years at those rates. If you switch companies it will follow you. If you quit driving it will be waiting for you when you come back.

Forget about making a statement - you need something disposable and really, really cheap.

  • Is a 2008 Ford Taurus X a good first car? I'm a 16 year old guy and I want a 2008 Ford Taurus X Limited AWD as my first car. I need AWD for snow. How reliable are they? Will it last? Does it have transmission problems? Taurus X. Not the little car. The SUV. I want the MDX but, it takes premium fuel and that costs too much. Outback doesn't have a third row seat.
  • Is a 2005 Ford Taurus a good first car? My mom got it at a decent price and it looks okay. It runs good and everything. Is this a good first car for me? I just turned 16 and am going to get my license soon, I just need to get more hours of driving in.
  • I'm in high school and about to get my first car looking for a loud, fast and good looking car So far I have looked into ford mustangs, I have a choice between a 2007 ford mustang gt with a 8 cylinder motor with automatic transmission, or I can get a 2013 mustang v6. My question is which of the two cars is a faster and louder car cause I would like to show it off and have heads turn by its engine as I drive off on the street. Thank you very much about to get my first car looking for a loud, fast and good looking car?
  • Good first car? NSX? Muscle Car? I'm 15 and starting to think of some cars that I would want (and are possible to obtain, '67 Pontiac GTO '68 Roadrunner Hemi '70 Ford Torino '79 Firebird Formula 400 '85-'90 Camaro '67 Impala '73 Nova '78 Camaro '66 Oldsmobile Toronado So, would the value of the NSX be worth buying and fixing up? And which, if any, muscle car is the top of your list and why?
