I have a 2001 Ford Taurus. For about a year, I've been having issues with the acceleration?
It randomly stays accelerated, even after I've stopped pressing the gas. It used to stop on its own after a few seconds, but starting 2 weeks ago, it got stuck and just never stops accelerating. I then started using it only on the streets, avoiding freeways because it seemed to be worse after taking a freeway, but it still stayed at about 1K RPMs, even at red lights. I'd have to push the brakes all the way down to stop it from going. Whenever I'd put it in Park, it revved up even higher, and sometimes up to 2-3K RPMs. Whenever it did that, I'd pull over and turn off my car, wait about 20 minutes, and it'd be back to normal.
Today, it got even worse. I absolutely had no choice to take the freeway, and it was a huge mistake. It stayed at around 2RPMs after I exited the freeway, and I had to pull over. When I put it in Park, it got even worse. It stayed at about 4K RPMs and almost got to 5K before it started overheating, then I turned the car off. After waiting 20 minutes, it still stayed accelerated. I waited another hour, it still stayed accelerated. I had to leave my car parked on that street and Uber home.
I did research, it seems to be a common problem with Ford Taurus's, and someone suggested to replace the Idle Air Control Valve. On the same thread, a guy said he unplugged the Idle Air Control Valve's computer cable and he was able to drive home. I did it, and voila. It now turns off when Idle but it doesn't accelerate anymore. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be?
You've answered yourself, it's most likely the Idle Air Control Valve. Try replacing it.

- 2002 ford Taurus cuts off a few secs after acceleration? OK my Taurus cranks and starts but she's shaking and sputtering like she's struggling to stay alive. When I press on the gas she dies. I have no problem cranking her back up. What's wrong with my baby?
- Having issues on troubleshooting my wife's 2000 Ford Contour SE V6 2.5 DOHC? After driving for about 3-4 miles it starts to jerk and loose power. Almost as if someone is hitting you from the back. It's not throwing any codes or making the check engine light come on so that tells me it can't be major. I hope. I have changed the fuel filter, added Techron concentrated fuel treatment, changed the (CPS) camshaft position sensor, changed the oil and filter. I also replaced the air filter and cleaned the MAP sensor. What else can it be? Someone please help.
- I'm having issues with my 2012 ford focus heater? I'm running my heater for over 20 minutes on my way to school and by the end of my drive one of my 4 vents is blowing luke warm air, the other 3 are blowing cold like the A/C. In March or April i had my radiator replaced and my coolant was flushed. I read that the hot coolant is what heats up something to blow the hot air? Also read that when the coolant is flushed it may clog something up which stops it from blowing hot air.
