Also I can't find out how many quarts it takes and whether i should just change the fluid or the fluid and filter. Or if there's a drain plug.
Haha. You said tranny
Change the filter and the fluid… DON't flush it.
Visit a quickie oil change place. Many can suck the old fluid out thru the dip stick tube & then re-fill it.
The 3.8L is a V6 it's not a four cylinder. You probably have the AXOD transmission. Ideally you should be changing the fluid every 30k or so. You should replace the filter and the fluid. Dexron III/Mercon ATF is the recommended type. You'll need between 12 and 14 quarts of transmission fluid for a complete change, but chances are you won't be able to get that much out by just dropping the pan, there's still going to be a few quarts left in the torque converter. So realistically, you'll probably be only to get around 8 or 9 quarts out.
- Why did my 2000 Ford Windstar just blow all off the tranny fluid out. But now its not leaking anything? I drove it with a trailer attached all day then I dropped the trailer off and drove home. When a was turning on to my street the car violently shuck but kept going I pulled into my drive way and looked under my car and big puddle of tranny fluid everywhere. So I filled it up this morning and drove it 75 miles and when I got back I was still full on fluid and nothing was leaking. So WHY?
- When did Ford (Mercury, etc) stop using Type F Auto tranny fluid in their vehicles? Sometimes… Living in a redneck town will amaze you. Especially noticing how low the average I.Q. Is…
- Transmission fluid change or flush or both (1997 Ford Taurus GL)? I just got a 1997 Ford Taurus GL with over 133000 miles. The car is in pretty good shape but when I shift gears it shifts kind of hard. I have no idea if the trans has ever been serviced but my guess is that it need to be. Would you recommend just draining the pan, changing the filter and gasket and replenishing the fluid or should I do a flush? Not a power flush. Just using an extension hose to drain the old fluid and add new fluid. Or do you recommend both? If so, in what order?
- Location of 1998 Ford Taurus fuel pump. Does it have a fuel cut-off switch? Car shut down suddenyl without warning. New battery and cranks but will not start. Suspect bad fuel filter, 130K miles and fuel filter has never been replaced.
