Rv with ford 460 engine automatic granny, can I tow acar in overdrive?

It's not advisable, it puts a strain on the transmission that it was not designed for. Direct drive runs straight through the tranny and makes a solid stronger connection.

A smaller car with no problem, a larger car you may want to only use the OD on highways on flat ground.

No if you are towing a car, tow car it must be in N and rv in D

Are you trailering the car, or flat-towing it?
When towing my 24-foot trailer & racecar (roughly 6,500 lbs) I'll kick the OD in on flat stretches.

The OD cancel switch is there for a reason. Use it whenever you are getting up to speed or climbing a grade. Your granny will appreciate it!

Yes you can. It will cause the granny to produce a lot of heat so make sure you have a external granny cooler able to handle the heat load.

  • Why can't powerful cars tow like trucks can? I don't know if this a dumb question, but I don't understand why you can't, I know you aren't supposed to but why. If my 230 hp Ford Ranger can tow 6000lbs, why can't the 845 hp dodge demon tow something, it has way more hp, way more torque and 2 more cylinders. Does it have something to do with the suspension not being able to hold the weight or what?
  • How much weight can a 2002 ford ranger tow? I was thinking about buying a camper. And I was woundering how much can my little ranger tow with out tearing up anything on my truck.
  • Can a 2012 Nissan Rogue tow a 1999 Ford Mustang? I'm moving to California and have two cars. I plan on driving the Rogue and towing the Mustang, but I don't know much about cars and their limits. If I rented a trailer and put the car in there would that make it easier for the rogue to tow?
  • Does anyone have a Ford Focus or a car with overdrive button? Need advice on the overdrive? Button! I'm confused. When I start my car, the overdrive [off] button goes off. Do I have to push the button on the gear shifter to turn it on? Or am I already in overdrive? I've read the manual and am still confused. I know that when I see overdrive off that it is off, but there's nothing to say it is on. Help! My question is even confusing, I know! Sorry!
