What full size SUVs get good fuel economy?
I'm 17 and I'll be getting my license soon. I learned to drive in a Ford Ranger. I'm used to driving the Ranger. I know large SUVs and pickups don't usually make the best first cars. I'm used to driving large vehicles. I'm looking for an SUV that get's at least 14 MPG City and 20 MPG Highway. What would be good to look at? I can't stand the low height and handling of a car. I also like the cargo room. I've driven car based SUVs and truck based SUVs. I have an easier time with truck based SUVs. I like the Lincoln Navigator, Ford Expedition, and Ford Explorer. Any other suggestions? I'd like to stick Ford/Lincoln.
The chances of your seeing even 20 mpg on the highway in anything larger than an Escape are somewhere between negligible and nil.
SUVs are terrible cars, and have lousy carrying capacity. They're also grossly unsafe, as because they are based on trucks, they don't have to pass the safety standards for passenger cars.
Only idiots drive SUVs and only ignorant idiots think that there's such as thing as a fuel efficient SUV.
- Would it be weird if I bought a full size van as my first car? I'm 17 and I want to buy my first car. I'm used to driving SUVs and pickup trucks. I have always liked full size passenger vans. I like being able to haul things and customize it. I really like the 1992-97 Ford E150 XLT 7 passenger van. Would it be weird if I bought one as my first car? I'm talking about a van.
- Why is my fuel economy so bad? I have a 2000 ford falcon forte petrol engine, and it's fuel is still terrible, I've had a fuel service done, a fuel treatment done, even an transmission service done. The transmission service did a hell of a difference, but it's still not fixed. The diagnostic scan came up empty, ruling out any electrical problem. What can it be?
- Will a new exhaust actually increase horsepower and fuel economy in my 2001 ford ranger 4.0? I'm looking at the flowmaster 40 series duel exhaust here: http://www.truckexhaustkits.com/ranger-96-04-dual-exhaust-2-25-ma-pipe-flowmaster-40/
- Aren't you amazed by the capabilities and the size of today's full-size pickup trucks? I drive a 2011 Ford Ranger XLT 4x2 with a 4.0 liter V6 (~245 ci.) engine. I was looking up the specs for early-mid 1960s F100s (considered full-size), and they have nearly the same GVWR, towing capacity, payload, horsepower, wheelbase, and height as my "compact" truck. In your opinion, do you think today's full-size trucks are amazing or too fancy/over-sized (a traditionalist like me)? P.S.: I like all American vehicles
