Should I get a newer truck?

I have a standard 4x4 86 Ford ranger. It has a 2.9l v6 with 350,000 miles on it and 4 speed auto. It is starting to have issues and needs new tires. For me to fix it I would cost about 1,000 in parts and another 1,000 for tires. I'm wondering if it's time to get a new truck or just try to fix this one.

With that kind of mileage, if you can afford it, get a new truck. That truck has served you well and been very loyal to you. Make sure you say goodbye to it nicely.😉

$2000 (and I think your tire budget is about $200-400 overestimated). So let's say $1600 or 2 to 3 new truck payments or about $4k to 6k in payments a year. PLUS much higher auto insurance and taxes if your area taxes such things.

What kind of issues be more specific? If you shop around for new tires then you should be able to find some under $500. Know if the truck is starting to have engine or transmission issues then it could be a good time to start looking for the new truck but if the engine runs smooth and transmission runs smooth then you should still fix it up.

It is 2019. It is time for a newer vehicle. Life is too short to spend time driving clunkers.

I always drive my cars until they are completely dead. My 2002 Mazda MPV, for example, had a bad engine and I continued to drive it until 2015 when it overheated and broke down and it hasn't run since. I still have it.

  • What truck should I get? SS silverado, Ram Rt, or ford lighting? I want a truck but which one should I get the ss comes with a 6.0 it's fast. The ram comes with a 5.7 hemi. The lighting comes with a 5.3. If you were me which one would you get. I don't care about horse power right now. So pick
  • What kind of police officers get to drive the newer marked vehicles? Like a Dodge Charger, Ford Taurus, and Chevy Tahoe? The newer and nicer vehicles. Do you have to be a certain rank? Or in a certain division?
  • Should I get a diesel truck or a gas? I won't be hauling super heavy loads all the time but I will be pulling a 28 foot camper up to at least 8 to 10 times a year and a goose neck horse trailer with living quarters occasionally. Maybe a stock trailer here and there but no major 200+ miles. I've always wanted a diesel but I'm not sure if it would be the best for me. I've been reading about them and they sound like nothing but trouble and a money pit.
  • Should I buy a 1977-1979 or a newer model 2010+ Ford truck? I'm looking into getting another truck. For some reason my gut is telling me to get an older carbureted truck. Nothing beats the feeling of driving an old American 4x4 truck. But newer trucks are safer and get better mpg. Looking for some input on this decision.
