Should I get a diesel truck or a gas?

I won't be hauling super heavy loads all the time but I will be pulling a 28 foot camper up to at least 8 to 10 times a year and a goose neck horse trailer with living quarters occasionally. Maybe a stock trailer here and there but no major 200+ miles. I've always wanted a diesel but I'm not sure if it would be the best for me. I've been reading about them and they sound like nothing but trouble and a money pit.

I'm not going to say you shouldn't get a diesel, but you definitely don't need one. My dad and I have both had very good luck with Chevy's 6.0L gas engine in their 3/4 tons. My 07 has close to 150,000 miles on it and it still pulls strong. Only thing I've had to fix was the brakes.

We have been very pleased with our first-generation Cummins engines in our 1992 D250 and 1993 D350. We recently had Jim Jessup replace the injection pumps, but hardly any other work has been needed in over 20 years. We expect they will still be running when we ourselves are long gone.

Most people don't really need a diesel. The amount of hauling will need to outweigh the extra maintenance costs. Another consideration would be the amount of highway mileage.
