What can I do to my truck to get better gas mileage and performance out of it?

I have a single can short bed 2002 ford f150 with a 4.6l v8 triton vortec engine Wich I use as a daily driver to work and back. Anyways this truck is a big gas gussler and I was wanting for a person with more knowledge to help me give it better gas mileage and a little more power to it. If you can help me out please i would really appreciate it thanks!

Aerodynamics, tire pressure

Those are mutually exclusive. Can't get more power AND better gas mileage. And nothing you can mod will pay off over the long run.

You pretty much got what ya got. You can spend a bunch of money for so called gas savers. And you will very little if anything in improvement. Your driving habits will make the most difference. And keeping up the maintenance. Save your money and buy a small if you really need better mileage.

The best thing you can do to get better mileage is to drive like there's an egg between your foot and the accelerator. Your driving habits will make more difference than anything short of changing the rear axle ratio.

Aerodynamics would be a start. The less wind resistance the better top speed and better highway fuel mileage you get. You could try lowering the suspension, a front air dam, an "airplane tail" shaped camper shell and/or wheel skirts. Those would be a start any how.

The next thing would be weight reduction. If you had the money to change to an aluminum engine block and get carbon fiber fenders, hood, doors, etc. At least get aluminum or magnesium wheels. These mods will help acceleration and help stop and go traffic fuel mileage.

The next step would be a hybrid system. There are companies that now offer hydraulic hybrid systems for trucks. These systems also help increase fuel mileage in stop and go traffic and also add more torque and power to the wheels with no engine modifications.
