My 98 Ford Ranger will not start?

I was driving and the engine cut out. Now it will not turn over. A friend and I replaced the fuel pump, spark plugs and spark plug wires. There's combustion, but it still will not turn over and run. Any help?

Lol if it's not running then there's no combustion guaranteed.

it's another issue. Could be lots of things.

are you using the phrase "turn over" correctly? If you turn the key and you hear it trying to start like normally but it doesn't actually get running then it's turning over.

if you turn the key and nothing happens, or there's only a "click" then it's not turning over.

if it's not turning over then replacing the fuel pump and all that other stuff would make no sense, since none of those things prevent an engine from turning over.

I would try to help but I'm not sure if your phrasing is correct, you need to be more descriptive with everything.

is there power?
does it actually turn over?
are there any check engine codes?
etc

if you don't have diagnostic equipment or a scan tool and stuff like that, then you just should bring it to a mechanic. You need diagnostic equipment and knowledge to diagnose no-start conditions. You shouldnt just spend money on parts

Let me try to get this straight. So you were driving. It stalled. Now it "cranks" but doesn't "start"?

Randomly replacing parts without troubleshooting the problem first is pure idiocy. The auto parts industry absolutely loves dopes like you for helping make them rich. If the engine doesn't turn over you can't be getting combustion. If the engine turns over but doesn't fire, then there might be several problems. Are you sure you're getting fuel to the cylinders? Are you sure you're getting spark to the cylinders? Have you checked the ECU for fault codes? Is the car out of gas? Did you check the fuel filter? Did you check the timing? Did you do anything at all logical before throwing money at it?

EPIC FAIL.

Sounds like a timing or cam/crank position sensor problem. Try to find the troubleshooting tree for you engine.

Hi so what about the wear inthe mains bearings and big end bearings or the slap in the piston in the cylinder bore i suppose in your pea brain this is not an issue.

Turn over means the starter motor isn't cranking the motor over. Is that the problem or did you mean it cranks over but doesn't start?
If it cranks over take the air filter off and spray a shot of starting fluid into the throttle body. If it runs a few seconds you need a fuel pump.

  • Why does my 1995 Ford Ranger not start? We have a 1995 Ford Ranger that will not start. A brand new starter was put in. The charge on the battery is good. A new ignition starter was put in. New battery cables. However, when the ignition is turned on there's on a one click noise. Any ideas?
  • My 1996 ford ranger will not start right away after filling up with gas? I turn the key and the starter just keeps trying to catch but engine never does. I've replaced the fuel filter, fuel lines and sensor in the fuel tank. Spark plugs and wires, alternator, timing belt, starter and battery are all less than a year old. I don't let the gas tank get below a quarter of a tank.
