Looking to buy a ford Ranger Year 2000 4wd-for my teenage son. Do they drive well? How much sand and what winter chains do I get for the 4x4?

Try actually asking local educated adults for real answers in your area as it varies greatly.
Plenty of websites for actual info on that car.

I drive a van in the winter. I can't make it up a 5% incline (my drive way) in the snow. I added at least 5 bags of river rock to the back to fix that problem. I use river rock around the house and can find a place for it each spring - either in the flower beds or in the driveway.

Maybe a set of snow tires would be a good idea. I have never used chains myself.

From what I gather by reading the comments below the videos, 3 out of 4 Ford Ranger owners absolutely love them.

  • My son has a 2000 Ford Taurus, there's not heat in his car? The car is equipped with a Auto Climate Control Unit. When the heat is turned on the blower motor does turn on as if there's no power to the blower. We have replaced the blower motor and checked all the fuses and relays. Could this be the Climate Control Resistor or the all in one controls on the dashboard? Or did we overlook something else?
  • Why would people buy a Toyota Hilux when they can buy a better, superior Ford Ranger? I owned a 2010 Toyota Camry and it broke down in 2011 upon reaching 0.6k miles. I treated it like a baby and it failed and disappointed me. My friend also owned a 2008 Toyota Tacoma and it failed to start in 2009 upon reaching 8k miles. And the mechanic said it was impossible to fix. However, my uncle has a 1965 Ford Falcon with over 750k miles on its clock and it still runs like new and he never even changed its oil since he bought it.
  • What's a good year to buy a used 4cyl Ford Ranger for around or less than $2000? I'm in the market for a used ford ranger. I'm looking for the extended cab with a 4cyc engine. I've got less than $2000 to spend, my question is what's a good year to look for with that engine, and maybe some bad years to avoid? Btw, I live in los angeles, CA. So I'm not worried about rust, or it being to old, if it was maintained well is the main thing. I know at that price range I can't expect much.
  • I have a 97 Ford Ranger, 4.0, in good shape, 102,000 miles and it doesn't start as well as I think it should. It cranks strong, and has new? Motorcraft plugs and fuel filter. I've cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body and the truck runs fine and there's no misfire. Maybe I'm expecting too much, but I think the truck should start when I turn the key instead of having to crank 2-3 times. I've also installed a new IAC valve. Any suggestions on how to get the truck to start better?
