What's a good year to buy a used 4cyl Ford Ranger for around or less than $2000?

I'm in the market for a used ford ranger. I'm looking for the extended cab with a 4cyc engine. I've got less than $2000 to spend, my question is what's a good year to look for with that engine, and maybe some bad years to avoid? Btw, I live in los angeles, CA. So I'm not worried about rust, or it being to old, if it was maintained well is the main thing. I know at that price range I can't expect much.

Good Cars in that price range are hard to find and year means nothing! It is condition that counts!

  • Where can I find a good used motor around Indiana? I'm looking for a 351W motor. I'm willing to travel up to 300 miles from Fishers IN for a good used motor. I don't want to pay for a rebuilt one because I plan on getting a rebuilt 390 and transmission for the car in 2 years. I'm willing to consider a 302, but really want a 351W. The motor will be going into a 1964 Ford Galaxie. It has a 351W in it right now, but it is useless. I believe the transmission is a C4.

  • Sporty cars with fwd for less than 15k? Does anyone know any good sporty cars, preferably coupe or convertible types that have fwd or awd for less that 15k. I like Ford Mustang, Subaru BRZ, Nissan 350z, Etc. But they're all rwd.
  • Is it a good idea for an 18 year old to buy a $20,000 Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang or a challenger? I just graduated HS getting into college and I'm thinking of buying a used or brand new car ( listed above) I have about 5000 for down payment. But I'm just not sure if it's a good financial decision, but at the same time I really want the car. Please leave your opinion below! My credit score is like 650!
